Notes: This fic amuses me since I can actually use my degree for something good! LOL. Title is because Scott McCloud writes books that explain comics.

Part A / Part B

Once Dean got home, he went right to his computer. He wanted to send Castiel an email apologizing, explaining everything. It wasn’t fair to the other to have Dean snap at him like that. Poor Castiel, he received the anger that Dean really had towards everything that was going on in his life. And those drawings had been absolutely beautiful. Castiel had shown that he was very onboard with this project - which was a miracle on its own considering what he went through. But once he had his emails opened up - he saw that he had an email from Castiel waiting for him. Fuck.

Dean felt his lunch sink in his stomach.

Crap. CRAP. Maybe this was a hate mail from Castiel. Maybe this was Castiel telling him off. Yeah, he’d deserve it. But shit. SHIT. Dean stared at the email for a bit, not willing to open it - but then he noticed there was an attachment.  He blinked. Now his curiosity was picked. He clicked the email open, not even reading the message and opened the document. Dean gasped when it opened. It was a page filled with sketches of John - the real John! They were amazing! A selection of facial expressions, notes about his built, the way he walks, everything! Dean merely stared, blown away. He closed the file and then looked at the message.

“Dear Dean,

Forgive me for losing my temper. It was rather childish of me to get so irritated with you. I spoke with Sam and he explained everything to me. Sorry for offending you. I shouldn’t have been so cold and heartless and assumed the worst and merely asked you instead. I asked Sam for some documentation of John and I hope these drawings capture the likeness that you wish.
Regards,

Castiel”

Dean smiled brightly. Castiel was perfect.

His eyes shot open, a feeling developing in his gut. That was weird. He shook his head and quickly wrote back.

“Hey,

If anybody should be apologising, it’s me. I’m really sorry for everything I said and losing it like that. I think the anger from the whole situation just really got to me and I took it out on you, which isn’t fair. You’re obviously very passionate about this project. Like serious, your drawings were phenomenal! And John looks amazing! And all the backgrounds were just, holy crap! I’m really impressed, dude! Do you think we could meet up tomorrow and hammer the details out?

-       Dean”

Castiel blinked, smiling to himself as he read the email. He hugged himself, unable to stop the fluttering in his stomach. He frowned sharply. He couldn’t go down this road again. Not again. He wasn’t going to allow himself to fall under the charms of another playboy. This is what they did. They laced you in, used you and then threw you aside. Castiel let out a small whimper. He told himself he wouldn’t think of Balthazar anymore. He didn’t want to think about the deep wound he left behind. There are many things that Castiel didn’t tell Gabriel. Like how he and Balthazar were actually sleeping together. That Balthazar would tell him that he loved him and that he was his everything. But what Castiel didn’t know at the time, was that Balthazar told the same old sad tune to every pathetic idiot he seduced into his bed. It was months until Castiel found out that while he was working in the studio, that Balthazar had been bringing people into their bed. And when he confronted him about it - the answer he got was “Well Darling, I never said we were exclusive.” It shattered him.

Castiel shut his eyes tight, trying to stop the barrage of tears that was welling up behind his eyelids. Fuck, fuck, fuck, please. Not now.

Gabriel walked into the room, holding a bag of Swedish berries and stopped. “Hey…Hey. Castiel?! Hey!” He ran up to Castiel, pulling him into a tight hug. Castiel hugged back, hiding his face in Gabriel’s chest. “Who did this to you?!” growled Gabriel, holding Castiel in a more possessive hug. Castiel shook his head, mumbling into Gabriel’s chest. “Nobody. I just…Dean is so different.” Gabriel blinked, surprised, then he turned his head and quickly read over the email and smiled. “Ahhh! I see you’re making up with old Dean-o! His brother said he was a bit of a grump, but a really hard worker. Not at all like that piece of shit.” Castiel nodded again, pulling himself away a bit from Gabriel, rubbing his now swollen and bloodshot eyes. “Yes, thinking of the differences made me think of him…I thought I was past this.” replied Castiel solemnly. “Past…how terrible he was to work with.” added Castiel quickly. Gabriel sighed. Apparently Castiel still wasn’t ready to tell him the whole story. Well, maybe one day. Gabriel rubbed Castiel’s back, smiling “C’mon, Champ! Buck up! Dean-o’s going to be great for ya! I’m sure of it.” Castiel smiled warmly to himself. Maybe Gabriel was right in more than one way.

“Why did you want me to meet you here with my sketchpad and a camera, Dean?” asked Castiel curiously as they both stood in front of the Lawrence Municipal Police Department. Dean was grinning. “Well, I figured that before we get started on the script and everything, I listed down some very specific weaponry and everything in the script.” Castiel nodded, frowning “You did, it was rather challenging to find good pictures, and I may need to improvise.” Dean grinned even more “No, you don’t!” and he took Castiel’s hand, leading him inside.

Once inside, Castiel’s eyes grew wide as he pointed “Oh! You’re John Winchester!” John blinked, then he smirked, pointing at Castiel “And you must be Castiel Novak!” Castiel nodded, still surprised. John let out a laugh and opened the side door “C’mon boys, let’s get this started before a bank gets robbed or something and we actually have to work.” Castiel shot Dean a confused look as the other lead him inside the police precinct. Castiel followed behind John and Dean who started talking. John said something about everything being laid out and ready. Dean said something about maybe needing more time if possible. Suddenly, Castiel was led to a door. John took out his keys, punching in a combination at the door and then unlocking it with his keys. He opened the door, stepping to the side to allow the two inside.

Castiel couldn’t believe it.

Every weapon mentioned in the script was laid out on the table in front of him. Castiel gasped, walking up to the table. “This…This is amazing!” Dean grinned “As chief of police, Dad has some pull. The rules state that either him or another cop have to be present for this, but Dad offered, I figured it would be useful for you to actually see up holding the weapons - correctly I might add.” A few seconds later, Sam came into the room, smiling brightly “Hey! Sorry about being late!” Dean smiled “Right on time, Sammy!” Castiel’s mouth dropped. This was…”Oh my god…this is like a dream.” Everyone laughed. “I wouldn’t want to be in your dreams if you dream of weapons” stated John with a smile. Castiel was grinning ear to ear.

It took them about 3 hours with the script to get all of the positions down. Dean also showed Castiel weapons that he planned on using in the future, so that he could get them down as well. He also got sketches and pictures of John, since Dean guaranteed that he’d show up later as well. It was incredible. Once outside, and after thanking John a million times over (as the other told him that he could come anytime if he needed any further references), Castiel was on top of the moon. “That was amazing!” he said to Dean, giant grin on his face. Dean smiled, a warm, natural smile, noted Castiel “Ah! It’s no trouble man! I can’t draw, so it’s the least I can do.” Sam grinned, giving Dean a light shove “He might not draw, but he can ink, letter and do flat colouring in PS.” Castiel blinked, surprised “You can?” Dean shrugged, looking embarrassed and not cocky. “Well, the basics, I used to help Sam so that he wouldn’t have to do everything. But if you’d like help, I really don’t mind.” Castiel sighed, a light blush appearing on his cheeks “You really are perfect.” Dean blinked, surprised as he gaped. Castiel turned bright red, hiding his face and Sam laughed.

“So, you’re leaving Friday, huh?” asked Gabriel, taking a sip of his hot chocolate. Sam nodded “Yeah, tomorrow’s my last day and then we pack everything, head out on Friday, we should be there for Sunday. And classes start on Tuesday.” They were in a small coffee shop right in the middle of both their homes. Somehow, Gabriel and Sam found themselves meeting up around 3pm every day to have a chat. At first it was to keep each other updated on each other’s brothers to make sure there was nothing going horribly wrong. But, soon enough, they found themselves talking barely about Castiel and Dean and more about everything else. Gabriel lifted a brow at Sam who was taking a sip of his coffee “Wouldn’t it have been much easier to just, y’know, fly?” Sam groaned, obviously this wasn’t the first time Sam had to answer this question. “Dean. He’s afraid of flying.”

Gabriel almost spat out his drink.

“He’s WHAT?!” Sam groaned even harder, look exasperated “I’m serious. You bring him into an airport and you’d think he’s about to have a panic attack.” Gabriel snorted, taking another sip. “But, I wanted him to be there, you know? He’s really not happy that I’m moving so far away, he thinks I’m trying to get away from them or something.” “Like Sam in Supernatural?” asked Gabriel, smirking proudly for deducing that. Sam sighed. “You got it. So I figure that if I bring him with me as I move, he won’t feel too abandoned, just, that now I’m far away.” Gabriel shrugged “That could work. Speaking of - have you seen the pages yet?” Sam blinked, then he grinned “Are they beautiful? Tell me they’re beautiful! They only have two weeks left now!” Gabriel grinned, whipping out his iphone, tapping on the screen a couple of times and then showed it to Sam “Here’s a page.” Sam took the phone and gasped, shocked. “Holy shit, this is…Holy shit, amazing!” Gabriel couldn’t be smiling more “Isn’t it?! Man, Dean has been, amazing with him too! He asks to see anything, Dean gets it for him! And he’s been inking the pages while Cas works on the next ones, doing all the lettering and he even did some flats while Cas was working on next pages. Posed, brought him food - everything! Castiel is so happy!” Doesn’t help that he has a giant crush on Dean thought Gabriel, taking another sip to prevent himself from saying it. Sam nodded, smiling proud “Isn’t he great? Dean’s so awesome to work with because he just - throws himself in it, you know? He seems pretty damn happy too, to be honest. He’s working on the next scripts with gusto. Apparently, Ellen approved ‘Wendigo’ yesterday, so Dean has been storyboarding it at home when he gets back from your place.” Then Sam smirked “With all the time he spends there, you’d think they’d be sleeping together.” Gabriel made a horrified face “Oh god, I’m right there! How dare they!” Sam laughed. Gabriel couldn’t help but look at Sam in awe. He loved when the giant laughed. It was a laugh that filled up the room, but not in an obnoxious way, but in a warm and fluffy kind of way. He was also really hot, and those dimples, and smart, funny, ambitious, amazing. Gabriel sighed. Who was he kidding? He had it bad for the younger Winchester. Falling for someone in under a week? For shame, Novak, especially someone who was just about to leave to start and illustrious career in the legal field.  Gabriel shook his head, the could deal with a lost chance another time.

Sam laughter died down and he bit his lip. “Hey…Gabriel…” Gabriel blinked, surprised at the almost shy tone of voice. “What’s up, kiddo?” Sam hesitated for a moment then he smiled shyly “Do you mind…if we keep talking like this…like, after I move to Stanford? I know going for coffee won’t be possible, but, like, email, skype, bbming…if you had a blackberry, and other stuff?” asked Sam, almost hopeful. Well shit! Gabriel grinned “Sure, kiddo! I’d love to!”

“Soo…Are we actually done?” asked Dean, in total disbelief. Castiel chuckled. They were both in Castiel’s room. Castiel was sitting at his computer with his laptop connected to his giant 30inch monitor, flipping through the pages on the screen. Dean was leaning over him, hands on the back of Castiel’s chair “It would seem so, yes.” Dean threw his fist up, pumping the air as he let out a cry of happiness. “Alright!! Issue one of Supernatural is a go!” Castiel smiled as he stared at the images in front of him “This is amazing. I can’t believe we went from nothing to this in less than three weeks.” Dean grinned, ruffling up Castiel’s hair “It’s because you are a magician!” Castiel chuckled softly, half-heartily trying to bat away Dean’s hand. “I couldn’t have done this without you. You were so much help!” Dean couldn’t help smiling as he put his hand on the side of Castiel’s chair, whipping him around, with the chair, placing his hands on each of the armrests, looming over Castiel. Castiel could feel his heart pounding in his chest as he looked up at Dean.

“Seriously man. Thank you. This is just, it means a lot to me.” said Dean, a genuine smile on his face. The fluttering returned with a vengeance. Castiel closed his eyes, trying to calm himself as he shook his head. “It was my pleasure, really.” Then he opened them, staring straight at Dean. “Thank you. For allowing me to do this with you.” Dean gave him a quick nod, unable to break the eye contact. They stayed like that for a moment, merely staring down at each other. Until Dean started to slowly lean in. Castiel started to raise himself, wanting to meet Dean halfway. Where they really going to? Castiel could feel the pounding in his ears. Is this really going to? Dean moved in even closer, only inches away. Really go-

And then Girls Just Wanna Have Fun started to loudly play in the room.

And that shattered the moment. Castiel let out a small growl, cursing the Alexander Graham Bell to hell as Dean whipped out his phone and turned his back to Castiel, answering it “Hey Sammy, what’s up?” Castiel heard Dean reply a few things as ‘yeah’ ‘okay’ and ‘don’t worry, I didn’t forget’, before he shut his phone, turning around to face Castiel again. Castiel blinked as Dean looked at him apologetically. “Sorry about that. We’re moving Sam tomorrow, so he wanted to make sure everything was a-okay. How about we go to the office, drop this off to Ellen and then you can get that much deserved sleep that you’ve been avoiding?” Castiel smiled, nodding. And then secretly wished that Dean would be in that bed with him.

destiel, fic, sabriel, scott mccloud never talked about this!
