Ask me what I did today...

I went to the desert.  The Negev Desert.  It was wicked cool, man!  We traveled south into the V between Jordan and the Sinai.

Immediately, I had an understanding of the hospitality they talked about in the Bible - about washing someone's feet when they entered someone's house.  It's hot and dusty 'round those parts.  I know I definitely would have appreciated a foot wash when I got in!  We also so the Be'er Sheva ruins and went into some caverns.

Shall I tell you why I did this?  Well, I had a 'day off' today and we have a group of Polynesians on pilgrmage staying with us.  So there was lots of singing with ukeleles (sp?) in some foreign language.  I enjoyed that.

However, I'm starting to discover more and more that I'm not comfortable with set prayer.  Praying the rosary prayers over and over again is not my kind of prayer and frankly, I don't know if I approve.  It doesn't feel genuine to me.  I don't like doing it just because everyone else is doing it.  They wanted me to lead some prayer because I was sitting the front of the bus, close to the microphone.  Of course, I refused because, well, my French is embarrassing and I just plain didn't feel it.  I have to say, though, it's easy to take a nap while others are muttering the same prayers over and over again.

All in all, it was a good day.

And I can't tell if my French is improving.

And one of the sisters and other volunteer want me to give them English lessons.  I look forward to it!
