cheap AND cute and now unavailable. . .

I wasn't talking about my personal life.

No, not my love life, I was talking about shoes.

Old Navy after Christmas sales are responsible for about 80% of my professional wardrobe.

back in 2005 as I fought the crowd that converges on Old Navy during the post Christmas sales season, I spotted an awfully cute pair of black pointy-toed flats/kitten heels.  I think maybe they were a little ahead of the trends because as adorable as I found them, they were on super-rediculous-couldn't-get-them-at-a-thrift-store-for-that-price sale.  Back then I was working at Dish, the building in which I spent my days walking folks through unplugging their recievers was in fact an old mall and sized accordingly, the parking situation was the same.  To enter or exit the building, as well as to get from the designated dirt lot parking to the one and only entrance that had the hand scanners we were required to use, was about the length of two football fields one way.  Add to this that the floors were made of highly polished slate and, basically, wearing heels required a Peg Bundy bounce and shuffle to ensure one didn't break an ankle in the rutted parking areas and the slick main corridor which was appropriately monikored "the Green Mile."  (It was green slate and quite often one did feel as though they were walking to their execution as they prepared to log on the phones. )

So ANYWAY.

Shoes.  Adorable shoes.  Shoes for sale at $3.48 a pair.  I figured at that price I would splurge and bought a pink pair, a black pair and a sort of beige-ey champaign pair.  Solve the heels problem but still have dress shoes that weren't my buster-brown style Doc Martins. From that day to this, I don't think there has been a day when I haven't been told how adorable my shoes were and asked where I got them.  Here's the problem.  They are dying.  the velvet is wearing off the toe and the sole is coming loose from the shoe itself.   The metallic finish across the band is cracking and the pink pair are definitely looking a little dirty at the right heel from gas pedal er, uh, pedalling.

Girls, and hell, if you know, guys:  Have you seen anything approaching these that are reasonably inexpensive?  Ok, like, payless inexpensive.  Cheaper even.  Broke as a joke cheap.  Help!
