…I heard knocking. My head…I hadn’t drunk that much the night before, but my head felt like the worst hangover I’d ever had. It was heavy and it hurt. Lily was calling for me. Making sure I was up. I was supposed to be her maid of honor. I sat up. And looked around. And that’s when I saw him…
JD.
Lying on the bed on blood-soaked sheets.
Dead. Shot.
And I had a gun in my hand.
And no memory of what had happened after the party. I could remember bits and pieces, but nothing after JD and I switched drinks. Nothing of the party. Nothing of the fight that was apparent from the hotel’s surveillance tapes. Nothing of going into a room with him. And nothing of shooting him.
And yet he was dead. And there was gunshot residue on my hand. I’d fired the gun…or had it fired with my hand around it. I don’t know.
I went to Lily’s party with JD. We had some alcohol, but not a lot. I have no memory of that night.
When I awoke the next morning, JD was dead and my life was turned upside down.
When I awoke the next morning, I had no choice but to run.
