[Games] Cake Walk, ENnie Nomination - Woot!

Note: It's just a nomination. We didn't "win" anything. And there are lots of other contenders. Also, it's not my name on the cover. But it's the first time I've had anything to do with something nominated where I wasn't merely part of a whole packed credits page's worth of contributors.

Here's a review posted by Shane Runkle.

This was originally a "one-sheet" adventure written by JB that I padded out with figure flats and illustrations, and then maps, and handouts, and while I was at it, I went overboard with some details for various locations on the map of the factory, some papercraft models, and helped flesh out some pre-gen characters and a short equipment list, and expanded upon some "adventure seed" ideas, and then did the proofreading, editing, and layout in Adobe InDesign. I'm hoping that at some point we may do something more in the "Fearsome Critters" setting, but JB is in the USAF, and recently landed a bigger project (I think there's a Kickstarter involved), so all that's in limbo.

This is one of the contenders for a game scenario I may run at Necronomicon this year. I could also envision it as a setting that would lend itself well to online gaming on Sinai ... if only I could figure out how to speed up the process. (I have become a bit impatient with age, I suppose, especially after getting used to gaming with Digital_Rampage, Dr_Rhubarb & Co at a faster pace using Ventrilo and Teamspeak rather than typing.)

Iron Kingdoms would be another major contender for what to run at Necronomicon, but one "logistical" appeal for running this game is that it wouldn't be quite as miniatures-and-terrain-heavy. "Cake Walk" is geared more for "theater-of-the-mind" play for the most part, breaking out the minis for points of conflict, or using them as markers on a map of the facility to keep track of the PCs if they split up to search.

I suppose I could take the initiative and just write up an adventure on my own, but that'll likely have to wait until my current Iron Kingdoms campaign is over with. It's a bit hard to "shift creative gears" that radically while I'm trying to plot out adventures tailor-fit to a PC group in between sessions.

fearsome critters, savage worlds, rpgs
