The problem with this comment is that neither party wants communication between the parties, it's desirable to the people who wish to be elected that their supporters think that the opposing side is evil rather than just misguided, it gives them more motivation to vote, more motivation to donate, more motivation to volunteer, etc.
So you're right from a human standpoint but I don't think it's correct to say that a *good* conservative would not vilify his opposition. Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity, and on the other side Micheal Moore and Keith Olbermann, are *good* conservatives and liberals, exactly because they vilify their opponents and help their candidates win elections.
In other words, I'm saying that if you want to win a contest, it's usually psychologically superior for one side to believe false things about the other, due to the benefits that has on actions. Example: would Ron Paul's people have donated so much to him if they didn't believe that all the other candidates were controlled by the CFR shadow government and the international bankers and actively working to create a slave planet?
