In an act of almost mind-boggling idiocy, Israel -- who has already released hundreds of Palestinian terrorists to give them more chances to kill Israelis, is now trying to release thousands, in the hopes that the Palestinians will then release one Israeli -- who the Palestinians took captive in defiance of an existing truce.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071224/ap_on_re_mi_ea/israel_palestinians The problem is that those thousands, under current Israeli policies, are not eligible for release because they have committed really serious crimes. Not to worry! The Israelis are just going to change their rules so that they can release them despite their really serious crimes!
All this is to try to get the release of one Israeli soldier made prisoner ...
"We are in such a situation that, if we continue with the criteria that was used in the past, there will be no one else left to free," Ephriam Sneh, a lawmaker in the influential Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, told Army Radio. "If we want to free prisoners ... and bring about the release of (Cpl.) Gilad Shalit, we will have to broaden this."
It apparently does not occur to Ephriam Sneh, and his fellow microcephalians, that (1) the Palestinians cannot be trusted on this, especially as they took Corporal Shalit prisoner in defiance of an existing truce, and (2) once the Palestinians get this mammoth concession, they can at any time simply take another Israeli prisoner in order to get even more concessions.
Instead of treating Shalit's captivity as a reason to give the Palestinians concessions, Israel should treat it as a reason to fight the Palestinians. And really fight them, with an annexation of territory at the end of it, instead of a limited attack which the Israelis give up on the moment they take some losses.
But Israel seems determined, at the moment, to commit suicide. I've almost given up on Israel ever gettting an attack of sanity and again fighting seriously for her own future survival :(
