Quick Thought on the Mass Murder in Tennessee

The really sad thing here is that the shooter was successful.  The solution to this is to harden the targets by allowing the military to go armed even when on Stateside assignments.  Had the Marines been armed, there's a good chance nobody would have died, instead of four people ( Read more... )

No, the shooter did not abandon his humanity, because humanity is not a thing you can abandon any more than you can abandon your DNA or your cranium. But the math still works, because if the military did not create soft targets as a matter of idiotic policy, the shooter would not have had an opportunity to attack.

You're of course technically correct. I'm speaking in moral and strategic terms.

One of the big handicaps which we impose upon ourselves in this war is that we have not dehumanized our foe, even though our foe deserves dehumanization more than most. In consequence, not only do we fail to celebrate victories over the foe, we mourn the deaths of our foes.

They do not appreciate this. Nor will they treat us in kindlier fashion for it.

Would "four people dead, one shooter stopped by death" work?

I, too, hate the way people lump the attacker in with the victims when they die in the process...but I also hate dehumanizing them, because if they weren't human it wouldn't be so horrific.

Mass shooters stopped by a person on the scene average less than three people killed.

There's a quote online from his sister, that Islam is a religion of peace. The same interview goes on to claim the family has been discriminated against in the US because they're Muslim.

Yes, all muslims in the US are horribly discriminated against, because:
We do not bow down to them.
We do not pay the infidel tax to them.
We let our women walk around half naked.
We treat our women like people, and not slaves/animals.
We do not treat their child abusing prophet as god.
We say bad things about their child abusing lying cowardly prophet
We do not follow their holidays.
We do not make special dispensations for them.
We do not kill jews.

So really, it is all OUR fault.

There is a huge faction that, for political reasons, will insist that violent jihad is nihilism, or something aberrant, when in fact, millions of Muslims in the US, and billions, worldwide, support it. In France, 16% support ISIS (who just released a video of their 10-year old executioner decapitating a captured Syrian soldier). Mohammad Youssef Abdulazeez is today being celebrated as a holy martyr all over the Muslim world.

Kerry even said that there was rationality for the charlie hebdo attack and then obama attacked gun rights (and not islamic terrorism) after the sacramento attack.

Not only that, but hillary refused to call boko haram a terrorist group.

For the record, I consider this one a legitimate act of war (albiet using spies and saboteurs), committed by a state actor holding territory.

Isis announced it, and the shooter attacked the military. So, legit.

I absolutely agree that having military bases be "gun free zones" is the absolute height of ignorance.
