A MLP Related Memorial Day Thought

Last night I slept safe in my bed and awoke after a good night's sleep.  I did not fear that, in the night, the enemies of my country would come and destroy my house and kill myself or my wife or any of my loved ones.  I take this for granted, as do most Americans.  Even though I know better, having extensively studied both military and social ( Read more... )

The thing about Islam is that it is a bully-philosophy; essentially a way to run a society through bullying on a massive scale. Its great weakness is that it cannot compete freely under Natural Law with other sucbcultural patterns; it can only triumph where its bullying is aided by special legal status. On the largest scale, it succeeds on the battlefield only by superior aggression and suicidal bravery: this only works when it has either overwhelming numbers on its side, or it faces a demoralized, divided or unprofessional foe. The special circumstances of the wars between the Eastern Romans and the Persians, and the religious divisions within the Eastern Roman Empire, gave this noxious meme a chance to spread beyond the land of its origin in the first place.

When Islam is relatively weak compared to other forces, only the bravest and craziest Muslims will attack; that's what we saw in the years from 2001-2010. As Islam grows stronger, increasingly-saner Muslims will join the fight, which is bad because it means that Islam acquires larger armies, which can still be spearheaded by the crazy.

This is why it's important to fight the Muslims now, when they're still weak. When we mesmerize ourselves by the full theoretical strength of Islam ("What if all the billion or so Muslims in the world all fought us at the same time?") or by the horror of what we'd have to do in that case ("We can't kill over a billion people!") we only make it MORE LIKELY that WE WILL HAVE TO DO JUST THAT.

Why? Because if Islam scores what the Muslims will perceive as signal victories, such as destroying major cities in America, Israel or India, then we will see whole Muslim nations joining the jihad. And then we will be in the mood to kill as many of our foes as we can, and we will be defining foes rather broadly. Our existential danger will be greater, for our foes will be more numerous. And we shall be inclined to burn down whole cities, complete with women and children, to avenge our own dead.

I know this because it's happened before. The World Wars. The West entered both World Wars with highly-idealistic notions of the proper way to fight, and finished both slaughtering every foe they could get in their sights, or in the blast radii of their bombs. If those who claim that the Muslims are even more fanatical than the WWII Imperial Japanese are right (I'm not so sure about that!) then we will wind up pretty much exterminating whole nations.

There's also the internal threat of Muslim minorities rising. That, too, can be dealt with by means of sufficient frightfulness, and if we see Muslim mobs rising in, say, Michigan to cheer on the deaths of millions in, say, Chicago, then such frightfulness will become politically popular. The Muslims are right now begging and pleading to be let into the West; this cycle of wars may end with them begging and pleading to be let out -- and merciless troops, their minds on murdered kin, gunning them down with smiles on their lips.

We can avoid greater cruelties in the future by being slightly less kind right now. But we don't seem to see the dangers.
