Sparrowind published

I was recently made happy and proud to learn that my good friend cutelildrow had written and e-published a novella.  The book is Sparrowind, and it's about a young dragon who tries a new approach to life based on what he finds in books.  I've bought it and hope to review it within a few days.  I hear her sales are already climbing and that the book is likely ( Read more... )

This is just nonsense fantasy that takes the very common idea of the friendly dragon which has been done before to death it's just a rip-off of Petes Dragon by E E Knought or whoever that guy is. We need more books which challenge notions of gender identity and the cismale white heteronormative hegemony. White girls like Modena should stop writing science fiction!

Actually, I think it's more like Jonathan Livingston Dragon.

The lack of a preview doesn't fill me with confidence.

Why do you dislike Jonathan Livingston Seagull?

Not sure why you need a preview. Have you read the actual story?

...I'm .... not sure how this anon even thinks that being compared to Jonathan Livingston Seagull will be taken as an insult by me. I loved that book as a child and I still love it now.

It was also a very popular book. If you achieve an equivalent level of sales you will be doing very well for yourself! If Yama does it will be a proof of theism. Or diabolism, more likely. ;-)

I don't get it either. Archer is a hilarious parody.

...Actually, I'm not sure what that yama-like anon is trying to achieve, constantly bringing up stuff I like.

I'm saying that I'm completely bewildered that anybody would be flattered by a comparison to Jonathan Livingston Seagull.

I'm completely bewildered by your original comparison, and furthermore bewildered why anyone would not be flattered by such a comparison to an intensely philosophical book that was one of the best-sellers of the 1970's. Are you saying that you would prefer to be known for shallow books which fail to sell well?

Jonathan Livingston Seagull was a shallow book that sold well.

Philosophical, yes, but very, very shallow.

Whereas you write very, very shallow books that try but fail to be philosophical, and sell very poorly.

Actually no, Jonathon Livingston Seagull was anything but shallow. However I doubt you are capable of understanding that, especially as you hadn't even been born yet.

Is that what you're telling yourself?

He presumably means "born into Jesus," namely converted to Christianity. I personally have no idea what is your religion, though I suspect its Holy Books are very densely written and hard to understand.

I'm pretty sure he's saying I can't grasp the brilliance of Jonathan Livingston Seagull because I wasn't alive in 1972.

What's the point of a trite Christian allegory if the only people who will understand it or care are already Christians?
