Bill Ayers Turns on Obama

Ayers, the 1960s radical from Chicago whom Republicans have often tried to link to Obama, says the president should be tried for "war crimes," and that his use of drones and other counterterrorism activities amount to "acts of terror."

This is hilarious for several reasons:

(1) - Bill Ayers actually is a "terrorist," both in the strategic sense (the tactics attempted by the Weather Underground were those of the "terrorist" phase of insurgency) and in the moral sense (they were meant to "terrorize" America into giving up in the Vietnam War), and a "war criminal" (he did not fight in uniform or as part of a recognized military organization), so Ayers is accusing Obama of doing exactly what Ayers did in reality, and

(2) - Bill Ayers was the man responsible for first sponsoring Barack Obama in politics.  Obama might never have gotten into a position to become President in the first place without this help from Bill Ayers.  (Bill Ayers may even have ghost-written Dreams From My Father, and written in Diana Oughton as Obama's "composite girlfriend."), and

(3) - Trivially, it is factually-incorrect:  we have fought the War on Terror with as scrupulous an attention to the Laws of War as one could expect any conflict to be fought, even to the point of endangering our pursuit of victory.  However, it is the sort of lie that one expects from the very same looney Left that Barack Obama came from, and it is amusing to see them now judging him by the same impossibly-perfectionist standards that they have previously judged other Presidents, especially George W. Bush.

This may represent the start of the defection of the radical-Left part of the coalition which originally brought Obama to power, though I think that Ayers overestimates his own personal influence these days.

Stay tuned.
