Egyptian Regime Crucifying Dissidents - An Old Evil Rises Anew

The Story

In a development that managed to shock even me, the Egyptian regime is now allowing its Muslim Brotherhood party militias to kill dissidents by crucifixion.

The Inquisitr said

According to reports on Friday, Muslim Brotherhood supporters scourged and crucified secular protestors in Egypt's capital city of Cairo. ... Brotherhood backed mobs rampaged through the streets, seizing protestors against the Islamist government of Mohammed Morsi, and dragging secular journalists from their offices.  Their victims were beaten, scourged with whips, and crucified naked on trees.

Most significantly, according to translated reports from Sky News and Egyptian websites, at least some of these victims were crucified in front of the Presidential palace.  This, coupled with the lack of reports of Egyptian security forces interfering with these actions, very strongly implies that the regime has sanctioned the murders.

I at first found it hard to believe the reports were true, until they were confirmed by David Horowitz's site Front Page, which reprinted and endorsed the claims of The Investigative Project on Terrorism.  The original source of the reports is apparently multiple Arabic-langugage Egyptian websites.  As usual, the mainstream media are reluctant to cover any story which would make Obama or an unfriendly Third World regime look bad.

The Significance

In 1979, what had been one of the most civilized Shi'ite countries in the world fell into fanatical barbarism and became a source of global evil.  In 2012, the same thing has plainly happened to one of the more civilized Sunni countries: Egypt.

With Morsi's purge of the military high command to secure Islamist control over the military and hence forestall a coup, and with a free hand being given to the Muslim Brotherhood as party militia, Egypt is clearly in the process of falling into a night at least as complete as Iran's.  Once again, a Leftist American President has succeeded in helping to topple a mild, pro-American dictatorship and ensuring its replacement with a tyrannical anti-American one.  Obama has at last managed to equal the legacy of Jimmy Carter, and the world will be paying for it in wars to come.

Two of the ancient lands of Civilization -- Egypt and Persia -- have now descended into darkness.  The loss of Egypt to the Islamists is especially worrisome from a strategic point of view because of Egypt's geographic position:  controlling the Suez Canal, Egypt can choke off trade between the Mediterranean and Indian Oceans: controlling the most important portions of the Nile, Egypt can act as a conduit to spread jihad south into the weak and unstable states of Africa, with the Islamist Northern Sudan -- formerly Egypt's enemy -- transformed into an ally either through sentiment, mutual interest, or through the use of naked force.

Egypt borders Israel.  The Muslim Brotherhood wants to repudiate the Camp David Peace Treaty -- the treaty under the auspices of which Israel returned the Sinai to Egypt.  If Egypt repudiates the treaty, Israel would be justified under international law in retaking the peninsula.  Even if Israel chooses not to act on this interpretation of the treaty, the Muslim Brotherhood has also called for supporting and arming the Gaza Palestinians in their war against Israel.  In either case, war between Egypt and Israel are now extremely likely:  a war in which Israel will face the constant temptation of dropping the Aswan Dam and scouring much of the Nile Valley clean of human habitation, which could be achieved without the need of employing nuclear weapons.

Egypt has access to Black Africa, which is mostly non-Muslim.  Under shari'a, Muslims have the right to enslave non-Muslims, and in Egyptian tradition, blacks are "natural slaves."  One strong possibility is that an Islamist Egypt will be willing to act as conduit and marketplace for slaves captured in the Sudan:  it is even possible that an Egyptian-Sudanese alliance might launch jihads using the Sudan as a base, to reconquer South Sudan and then to attack the black countries to the south.

We are witnessing the rebirth of an ancient evil in Africa, and it is as yet far from clear how long it will run or how far it will spread before the Civilized countries of the Earth band together to strike it down.

Thank you, Barack Hussein Obama, for your Presidential legacy.
