Britain reaped further rewards from her nuanced and restrained foreign policy when a mob of Iranian "students" sacked the British Embassy in Tehran, according to Nasser Karimi of the Associated Press in "Iranian Students Storm British Embassy in Tehran" at
http://news.yahoo.com/iranian-students-storm-british-embassy-tehran-123229726.html .
Hard-line Iranian students stormed the British diplomatic compounds in Tehran on Tuesday, bringing down the Union Jack flag and throwing documents from windows in scenes reminiscent of the anger against Western powers after the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
As is to be expected in mainstream media reporting, the lead line gives the Iranian regime an out by ascribing this insanely provocative insult to "hard-line Iranian students," as if this was merely the Iranian equivalent of a class outing to the museum. However, the next line admits ...
The mob surged past riot police into the British Embassy compound ...
Please note that these are Iranian riot police. Iran has already established that Iranian policy regarding riots that she really wants to stop is to fire into the crowds, so we must assume by the relative inaction of the riot police in this instance that they had orders to let them through. Hence, this counts as an action of the Iranian regime, not merely a bunch of Iranian "students."
... which they pelted with petrol bombs and stones ...
Note the petrol bombs. Molotov cocktails are lethal anti-armor and anti-structural devices. This was attempted mass murder.
... two days after Iran's parliament approved a bill that reduces diplomatic relations with Britain following London's support of recently upgraded Western sanctions on Tehran over its disputed nuclear program.
This is the Iranian reaction to a "reduction in diplomatic relations." This is a non-nuclear-armed Iran's response to this reduction, initiated by THEMSELVES. Remember this the next time that some complacent fool tells you that a nuclear-armed Iran will behave responsibly with its weapons, and be deterred by threats of retaliation from launching attacks with them.
Less than two hours later, police appeared to regain control of the site.
Translation: The Iranian regime decided that its point had been made, and ordered its stooges to leave the Embassy, which they did.
... about 300 protesters entered the British ambassador's residence in another part of the city and replaced British flags with Iranian ones.
Which means that this was a clearly coordinated action, and probably one directly ordered by the Iranian regime, rather than merely sanctioned after the fact by them.
The British Foreign Office harshly denounced the melee and said Iran has a "clear duty" under international law to protect diplomats and offices.
"We are outraged by this," said the statement. "It is utterly unacceptable and we condemn it."
Ooh, I bet the Iranians are shaking in their boots at your "condemnation."
Here's a hint, Britain. If you want the Iranians to take you seriously, start killing them. They aren't going to listen to anything less.
The semiofficial Mehr news agency said embassy staff had left the compound before the mobs entered, but it also said those who occupied the area had taken six staff as hostages.
So, Iran has now interned six diplomatic personnel. Any word on if they've been released?
In recent years, Iran was angered by Britain's decision in 2007 honor author Salman Rushdie with a knighthood.
Rushdie went into hiding after Iran's Ayatollah Khomeini issued a 1989 fatwa, or religious edict, ordering Muslims to kill the author because his novel "The Satanic Verses" allegedly insulted Islam.
Note: Iran committed a blatant ACT OF WAR against Britain by publicly offering money for the death of a prominent British citizen, Britain and Iran is angry that the British dared honour that citizen against the will of the Iranians. Iran considers that she has the right to control events within Britain's borders.
The decision came shortly after Iran detained 15 British sailors and marines in March 2007 for allegedly entering the country's territorial waters in the Gulf - a claim Britain denies. The 15 were released after nearly two weeks in captivity.
... and Britain never did anything tangible to Iran to punish the Iranians for this attack on British naval forces. The Iranians were furious that Britain dared make even a symbolic response to this act of unprovoked Iranian aggression, which -- please note -- occurred in the context of the Iranians sending armed guerilla bands into the Basra region to attack British troops -- an act of war which the British also failed to punish.
Britain: Iran sees you as her bitch. You will not regain Iranian respect until Iranians die beneath your bombardments. It's that simple.
Will Britain take the lesson?
