suspect it's to calm down civilians because we've been dropping bombs in northern Pakistan quite consistently.
We've "been dropping bombs in North Pakistan quite consistently," yes, but we have not been given formal permission by Pakistan to pursue the Terrorists into North West Pakistan. Absent either transit rights from or a war against Pakistan, it could be argued that everything we're doing in NW Pakistan is shameful and illegal. It's important that the Pakistanis either drive the Terrorists out themselves, or cede us the right to do it for them.
Pakistani civilians get hysterical over nothing ...
???
Frightening to think that for all my white-hot hatred for Bush I was still less paranoid than you are about Barack Obama.
Paranoid? I'm not arguing that Obama was doing something evil. I'm arguing that he's diplomatically incompetent. He's, unintentionaly, reinforcing the political position of the Terrorists in Pakistan -- and favoring Pakistan over India on the Indo-Pakistani issue, depriving the anti-Terrorist alliance of unity.
The parts of Pakistan being hit by high-precision strikes, which are killing very few true civilians, are parts not under the control of the Pakistani government anyway. The sectors of society profiting from the aid packages are the ones most loyal to the regime. The Pakistani regime is essentially receiving a payoff for its creation of the Taliban, and using much of it to enhance its military capability against India.
This is very poor grand strategy. A far better strategy would be to ally with India -- then, if we did find ourselves at war with Pakistan, we'd have a huge ally right on the war's doorstep.
You're right. Those high-precision strikes are utterly insignificant. That Al-Zawahiri guy was just a simple goat herder now murdered by incompetent ol' Barack Obama:

And he allowed such horrors to be perpetrated on simple farmer Saleh Ali Nabhan:

So that's Obama for you. Utterly incompetent and the second Jimmy Carter. Pay no attention to the Navy Seals offing pirates.
