From Ignacy Krasicki (1735-1801), a short poem that American diplomats and pundits would do well to keep in mind when wondering how foreign despots see the world:
"The Lamb and the Wolves
The predator's cause is always good.
Two wolves attacked a lamb in a dark wood.
It said "I want your legal rights defined."
"You're weak and tender, and it's dark." They dined.
