Woke up early this morning to the following. One of the best summaries is by various wrters of the San Francisco Chronicle in the hilariously-titled "Protests over BART shooting turn violent" (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a ( Read more... )

I could only read about half of this and skim the rest. It was making me ill.

I have never understood the mentality that says just because you have a grievance (legitimate or not) against someone or some situation, it is therefore acceptable to run the streets and generally behave like savages. And if it's toward people who have nothing to do with your original problem? It doesn't matter. What's important is you know, EXPRESSING YOURSELF - in whatever way you see fit.

Seriously though, isn't evolution supposed to go UPWARD?

You've never been to Los Angeles after a Lakers home game, have you?

If the Lakers lose, there's a riot and the city around the sports arena burns in revenge.

If the Lakers win, there's a riot and the city around the sports arena burns in celebration.

And anyone who comments about this is RACIST RACIST RACIST...

It happens that often? I thought it would only be for major championships. (Not that it's acceptable then either!)

I swear, this world is NUTS.

I suspect there is exaggeration.

Sadly, he's not.

Newspaper archives can easily prove this. That and Google.

Wow, a total non sequitur.
And no, it's not supposed to go "upward". It's the process of organisms becoming more adapted to their local environment.

As for the riots: yeah, bad. Two wrongs rarely make a right, especially when the second wrong isn't even directed at the first. OTOH, that goes as well for wishing violence against Sykes, who is simply a "demonstrator" and may not have done anything violent herself. And while supporting violence is bad, well, vigilante violence against everyone who verbally supports violence would get messy fast. At least *she* wished for no one to get hurt -- unlike you, Jordan. What's your mailing address and place of employment?

As soon as I began reading this, I knew it would be, "Yeah, what they did was wrong, BUT..."

No, it's "we don't know if she's really part of 'they'" and "wishing violence on people is also wrong, you know?"

She was marching with them, and she said she approved of their actions, going so far as to berate a victim to her face. Unless you think she's a hypocrite ... ?

There are no hypocrites with the Faith of Liberalism. Only people too nuanced to make any damn sense.

OTOH, that goes as well for wishing violence against Sykes ...

Sykes implicitly proposed a rule: "Violence and vandalism against the innocent are ok if it advances a cause that you really believe in." Are you saying that she means this rule to apply to everyone BUT HERSELF?

I choose to have a better opinion of her, and expect her to go "Oh good, my ideas are catching on!" if some of the storekeepers behave similarly to her and her property. :)
