Guess who's back, back again

Holy crap. Look who has finally updated his live journal. Thats right folks, after a total of 61 weeks without recording a single entry, Ive decided to record a brand new one. Sorry for all the delays (because anyone's actually going to read this, hah). I guess I'm not going to MSU anymore, so...thats the only really big change in my life. OK, time to cut the crap and get on with the reviewing.

I guess technically I promised everyone last time that I would have a review of Red Dragon. Well, true to my word, I will give that review. But since it's a year old movie, and no one really cares, it will be very brief.

OK, here goes. Crazy guy is killing lots of people. Ed Norton, always cool, is trying to stop him. He ALMOST got munched on by Lecter, but instead put him in jail. Lecter decides to help the crazy guy kill Ed Norton. Many plots twists and suprises but in the end the bad guy gets killed and everyone lives happily ever after...cause then Lecter meets Clarice. All in all, Norton was pretty good, but, it was only an OK movie. Rent it and don't see it in theatre's (wait, do you have a chance anymore. Didn't think so.) So what did you think, WORST movie review ever??? I agree completely, thus I will amend myself by reviewing a much more recent (and better altogether) movie, The Return of the Kings.

The Return of the King is the third (and final)installment of The Lord of the Rings. Yes, for those of you who are in shock, final means last. No more LOTR movies (Lord knows what you'll wait for every year now). No more Orcs being slain. No more amazing Legolas stunts. No more whining and crying Frodo (and the crowds rejoiced at this). Don't mistake my feelings. I feel bad for Frodo, being the ring bearer and all, but I think everyone agrees with me when I say grow some balls man. You have the awesome sword Sting. Why not actually USE it once in a while...wuss. But forgive me, for all too quickly I digress.

The Return of the King was written by J.R.R. Tolkien and directed by Peter Jackson. The movie begins where the second movie in the trilogy, The Two Towers, leaves off. Frodo and Sam are trying to get to Mount Doom to destroy the ring, Merry and Pippin are at Isengard with the Ents, and the rest of the fellowship is riding from the battle of Helms Deep to the tower of Isengard. Sauron's forces have amassed to strike at the country of Gondor, and the peoples of Gondor must rally, and hope for the aid of nearby countries, so that they can protect their homes, families, and in the wider scope of things, all of Middle Earth.

Well, I don't want to reveal to much of the story, since anyone who reads this and hasn't seen the movie yet will be VERY angry with me, so let me make a few comments. If you love huge and epic battles, this movie definetly provides it. There are many scenes where THOUSANDS of men from both the sides of good and evil just...collide...and all chaos ensues. The battle scenes in this movie are beautiful, and...simply amazing. You get to see all of the heros at their finest, especially the hobbits...and I even gained a little respect for Frodo (hah, imagine that). Anyway, after the war is over, there is a good half hour of closing, so that the audience fully knows what happens to the characters and people of Middle Earth after the war.

This movie is very action packed (which I think I've already stressed). It holds fairly close to the storyline of the book, with only a few minor changes. The major change is at the end of the book, when the directors of the movie left out at least 100 pages of the book. I forgive them since it's wasnt the most important part of the book, and they had already made the movie long enough (3 and a half hours). The last half hour actually did seem a little bit long though, so be prepared when you watch it. If you think the movie ends cause of a long held out fade to black or some such, sit still, the film may still be rolling. Other than that though, the movie was perfect, a great ending for a wonderful trilogy (both in written and movie form). Its nice to know a worthy Lord of the Rings movie has been made (as opposed to the crappy cartoon ones made in the 70's).

Well, I dont know how much I can conciously reveal, so I'd say, go watch it, for sure. This movie gets 4.5 stars out of 5, just cause I'd really like to have seen the complete ending of the trilogy the way Tolkien wrote it. But the 4.5 comes from great shots, acting...well...everything pretty much. Damn, I keep repeating myself. Well, it IS getting really early, not enough sleep. So, this is me telling you to definetly see this one in theatres and make your holidays happy ones. And with that.
