A few pictures of living (and dead) things, including the mourning doves that are making a nest in our stair covering
The female selects the nest site, and waits for the male to bring nest-building material.
However, he sucks at building nests. (pile of twigs that fell off the intended nest location, or that he dropped)
So I decided to help them out a little, and closed off the gap that they were having diffculty bridging with a 2X4, which gave them a nice little platform. Here he is right before, then right after delivering a twig.
Coming in for a landing....
now onto the dead animal.
About a week ago, i noticed an object on the roof of the entryway below our apartment. It looked kind of like one of those fake spiders you put places to scare people. so I went down to have a closer look. (i.e., throw rocks at it) It was nighttime, so i had a hard time indentifying it, but it looked an awful lot like a tarantula. putting a fake tarantula on a roof seemed kinda silly, so i got out the old zoom lens and took a picture:
Yes, it is a tarantula, yes it is still on the roof, and no i don't know whose it was. I figure it escaped from the cage, and ended up on the roof because it was the last warmest place it could find before it died.
