you were more of a nurse than a doctor, you think. you think about the training in school and in the hospital you work in now, and realized you only do what nurses do. your childhood dream was to become a professional doctor and help save children and adults.

you're content though, being here right now.

you never solved a case, never saved a life.

except one.

you learned more in this hospital than in school, because in school, you learned about facts but after you entered this hospital, you learned about life happenings. now you thought they were magic from fairytales.

you help him around, and you helped him wash, and clean his room. once in awhile you’d bring him flowers in a small vase and tell him the name and story behind them.

you'd see him smile slightly, getting use to feeling with the numbness going away slowly. you'd smile back brightly and tell him to take his time.

he'd give hints to sit up or lay back down. sometimes he'd look at the novels and books besides his bed, and you'd know he wants another story. you see it more clearly now, the emotions on his face. when he's happy he'd stare at you with sparkling eyes and when he's tired he'd look at the blanket covering him.

you've never seen him sad though; and you wondered why. doesn't he miss his family? but he never gave any indication if he remembers anyone.

you would give him time, wait until he can speak again. but until then, you'll be right here with him.

at least until he doesn't need you anymore, you thought.

you massage his arms and legs, moving them to help his body. before you come into the room, you would peek into the room and see him trying to speak. you'd smile fondly, and knock gently to signal your return. he'd immediately close his mouth and turn his head slightly to you.

you can move your head. that's good. you'd say softly. he'd smile too - after some months, of course he can at least smile right?

after awhile, he can smile, turn his head and move his hands. it's a good start, you think.

you feed him soup and water. you’d sit in one of the white chairs next to his bed, and feed him. he's open his mouth, and you'd gently put the spoon full of soup into his mouth and you'd tell him it's okay, drink it slowly.

he'd smile again, and nod for more. you find him cute that he can't speak, for some reason. and you'd smile at the thought as you feed him more.

after he finishs, you'd go wash the bowls. he's wait patiently in his bed until your return.

you bring him out to the gardens at the hospital; cautiously helping him into the wheelchair and wheeling him out. you give him fresh air and flowery fragrances to breath in. he'd smile.

and for the nth time you'd see him smile in these months, you think there's nothing more beautiful than his smile.

(but that night, after tucking him into his bed, you move to leave after a goodnight kiss and a sincere, see you tomorrow.

you feel a gentle tug at the hem of your coat again, turned to see what he needed - another bedtime story?

goodnight jaejoongah, he says.

you think there's nothing more beautiful than his smile.

until you heard his voice.)
