He listens as the reports come in from the field and feels as useless and impotent as ever.
Another day, another mission, another failure.
But this will be worse than the others. Connor, Abby and Danny are all still lost, there is still no sign.
Then Lester hears the shouting over the radio. Hears Becker’s frantic voice calling for help. The authority that is usually there is gone and Lester senses desperate panic seeping in.
His blood turns to ice in his veins. His eyes close and his head drops, his whole body suddenly frozen.
They can’t lose her too.

lukadreaming prompt 'Secret Santa'
“What are you doing?”
The reply was muffled and, grinning, Nick leant forward and tugged gently at the beard obscuring half the face in front of him.
“Try again.”
“I said, ‘I am being Father Christmas’. Everyone needs a bit of festive cheer and I thought it would lighten the mood in here. But it’s a secret. I don’t want anyone, especially Lester, knowing it’s me.”
Nick smiled and swallowed a laugh as the beard was carefully put back into place.
“Your secret is safe with me.” he called, as he watched Santa sashay away on three inch stiletto heels.

echo_fangirl prompt 'Pride' (made her choose the character too)
People always said he should take more pride in himself, in his appearance, in his work. Connor had never seen the point. No one was interested in him and no one was interested in his work. What was there to take pride in?
Then the whole world changed and he could help fix it. It took time, but when the anomaly detector was finished he looked up to a circle of faces.
A curt nod from Lester, a hand on his shoulder from Nick, a smile from Abby, and Connor realised; he didn’t need his pride if he had theirs.

fredbassett prompt 'Girls Girls Girls'
‘You’re taking the piss’ Stephen thought to himself as he and Ryan stopped outside the bar. He hesitated.
“This is where we’re meeting everyone?”
“Yeah. Don’t you want to go in? You don’t strike me as a prude Hart.”
Stephen rolled his eyes. “It’s not that.” His glance flicked to the large neon sign again. “Just not my sort of place.”
Ryan followed Stephen’s eyes to the pink declaration of ‘Girls Girls Girls.’
“Do you mean…?” he started uncertainly.
Stephen shifted on one foot. “Um…yeah.”
“Thank fuck for that. You wouldn’t fancy coming back to my place instead would you?”

fredbasset prompt 'Things that go bump in the night'
In the still night your mind plays with the noises in the world around you, uses them to make shapes in the shadows. The part that is still a boy scared of the monsters in the wardrobe wonders for a moment if the danger is real. Then you smile into the night, tell yourself it’s all in your head and listen to your heart rate slow.
So it’s a surprise when you wake to a hand clamping down over your mouth and a voice whispering in your ear,
“Oh Sir James, I have waited a long time for this moment.”

fredbasset prompt 'The ocean'
Anomaly closed, world saved, Connor stood at the end of the pier, gazing out to sea. Noticing he hadn’t followed the others, Nick joined him.
“Conn? You ready to go?”
Connor gave a noncommittal quirk of his head, and Nick moved closer, noticing the expression on the young man’s face.
“I’ve never travelled much. I used to the think the ocean was huge. But now…it’s all changed hasn’t it? Far away is…so much further. The world is so much bigger now. I’m worried it’s too big. Impossibly big.”
Nick closed his eyes and found he had no words of comfort.

telperion_15 prompt 'Introductions'
It has been mentioned, in passing, by - oooo - most people, that Connor Temple does not make the best first impression. In fact as far as first impressions go, his are usually quite poor. Or forgettable. Yes, horrifically memorable, or utterly forgettable. He errs for forgettable now.
But this is important. He knows it’s important, he can feel it. He tries nice, he tries talking, reasoning. And all it gets him is mocking grins and dismissive words.
But this too important to be forgotten this time. So he goes for horrifically memorable, damn the consequences.
“Your wife wouldn’t have ignored it.”

fredbasset prompt 'There’s no I in Team'
Lester hauled Becker through the front door of their flat and pushed him towards the bed room.
“Strip and take up position in the door frame” he barked.
Becker obeyed immediately, and stood naked, legs spread, hands gripping the wood, knowing what was coming; knowing that he deserved it.
Putting himself in danger put the whole team in jeopardy. It was a lesson he had been taught repeatedly yet never learnt.
As he braced himself for the first sting of the flogger, Becker thought to remember how lucky he was to have His Master here to help keep teach him.
