“I’m handing in my resignation.”
Becker looked up sharply as Lester spoke.
“You can’t. You’re the only one who’ll make sure they keep trying.”
“Not the only one.”
“I can’t. Too much went wrong.”
“Too bad neither of us will be there to see it put right.”
“James, you need to be there for them.”
“I will not set foot inside that place without a head of security I trust. If you want me to stay, you know what to do.”
Lester turned to leave and Becker dropped his head, the bargain left hanging in the air.
“Fine. I’ll stay.”
