note on credit cards
After a stern lecture from Ann, I went ahead and cancelled all my accounts that I don't use, like credit cards I signed up for to get something free on campus. Turned out I had a Citibank card I didn't know about, and 2 Discover cards when I thought I only had one. Not good, people, not good. Anyways, I am writing about this because I wanted to let you know that Discover was very nice about it and Citibank sucked ass. I told the Discover guy that I had these 2 accounts, I didn't use them, and I wanted to cancel both. After a few minutes of typing, he was like "ok, it's done, you'll recieve a confimation in the mail." And I was like "sweet." The Citibank lady conversation was more like this:
CB: So I see that you've never used this card in your life...
Me: Yes, I didn't even know I had it, please cancel the account.
CB: Well, we can send you a new card and you can try it and see if you want to keep it...
Me: No, just cancel the account.
CB: You can earn up to 5% cash back on groceries, gas and pharmaceuticals...
Me: No, I'd like to cancel the account.
CB: Even though you can save money by buying things you need anyways?
Me: Yes.
CB: If it's the interest rate that's getting you, I can get you a 0% APR for the first 6 months.
Me: Nope, don't want it.
CB: Even though you can have a 0% balance tranfer from any other accounts?
Me: No, please cancel the account.
CB: Is there ANY way we can change your mind?
Me: No.
CB: You know, you really hurt my feelings, I was just trying to make you happy.
Me: I don't care.
CB: Oh, YOU don't care? It's always about YOU, the customer. No one ever calls to talk to ME.
Me: Stop whining and cancel my account.
CB: You're so negative, what did the account ever do to you?
Me: Nothing, I've never used it, that's why I want to cancel it.
CB: You know, you really have some nerve calling me.
Me: They transfered me to you.
CB: Oh, try to shift the blame will you? You disgust me.
Me: Are you gonna cancel my account or not?
CB: It's canceled. Thank you for calling Citibank, have a great day.
Me: Burn in hell.
So yeah, Citibank sucks, Discover is cool.
