This weekend I celebrate my independence from Apartmentism. Yes, in case you haven't already heard, yours truly is a homeowner. I closed on a place in Clifton Park this past Monday - a nice 1000 sq ft ranch, brick, with a fully finished basement and a large backyard with 2 sheds!!
And so now after this weekend has finally wound down (and man what a crazy ride it was), I am finally restful and at peace sitting in my apartment for one of the last few days, surveying the masses of *STUFF* I have and like the faint pang of dread that comes with a project deliverable, I think about all the packing I have to do.
There's much cleaning to do as well - I really should shampoo my couches...shampoo the carpet here when I move out...clean the stove in my new kitchen which is a little gross...clean the fridge the same way...the list of projects balloons.
Why do people feel the need to have their own nesting ground? I certainly hope the tax benefits and the good feeling about property ownership outweighs the doldrum of maintaining it, but I think now that I'm committed to maintaining a good place, that will be the case.
I just really really really need Producers to be over NOW because holy crap I spend all my time there. I'm stupidly understaffed because nobody wants to commit to things, I'm not only producing on the tech side of things but a major source of effort when it comes to building the set and oh yea nobody went for the Props master role really so I need to do that. I need 2 people to run props during the show and at this point I'm going to be one of them. Also probably helping backstage. Maybe even making a cameo onstage. This type of producing is different, because there's such a lack of good dedicated technical minions compared to the Playhouse. Everybody wants to be an actor or a designer or something. I'm at a place where I've run out of sources to delegate things to because, frankly, the timing of the show isn't great so nobody can really commit. Month of July. Awesome.
Come August, after Producers is over, I'll be gearing up for Joseph but I'm going to goddamn well ensure I delegate way more. This way I can actually spend time at home, doing the myriad of projects that I want to do. Mostly cosmetic, but there's a lot of it.
And if you couldn't tell this post is also a form of procrastination from cleaning. But here's the project plan:
Today:
- Do laundry
- Do dishes
- Ruthlessly throw things out
- Find boxes I have, pack as much as I can fill
- Run to work and get more boxes and tape
- Pack pack pack until I can't anymore
- Clean my car; bring what I've packed and what fits to the house
(It's going to be a looong night. Call me if you would like to help, as I said it's just filling my stuff for now. Just FYI, no power at the new place yet.)
Tomorrow:
- Get a truck
- Continue packing if needed
- Clean my house kitchen (it's nasty - I could use a subteam to take care of this while I take care of getting the rest of my crap, or vice-versa)
- Fill truck
- Get Hobo's bed
- Move the rest
Tuesday:
- Clean the old place top to bottom
- Final walkthrough
- Pray there's power at the house
