I have fond memories of having Advent calendars to count down to Christmas, and for the past couple of years, I've seen some really beautiful hand-crafted versions in the craft blogs (
here,
here, or this adorable Halloween Calendar,
here).
Also on the craft blogs, I saw a suggestion to fill the calendar with
activities instead of candy. I love this idea, as it seems both more appropriate for the spirit of Christmas and much healthier than daily candy.
So this year, I decided to make my own. Using the instructions for the Halloween Calendar above, I created my own Advent calendar and filled it partially with prettily-packaged suggestions. Some boxes are still empty, to be filled with candy as we get closer. I'm unwilling to completely ditch the joy of getting candy in a little box!
They're all backed by magnets and will live on our fridge once December starts.
