Running towards a 10K

I've started my training for Boston, and so far it's going really well. I'm using the training plan from Run Less, Run Faster with Jeff as my coach.

This is the first time I've trained specifically for speed instead of endurance. I think I've shied away from it in the past because when I ran intervals on my own, I invariably ran too fast and couldn't complete the workout. Or, I would complete the run but be totally beat and sore the next day. Having a training plan has really helped, and so far the training has nailed being hard without being too hard.

I also wasn't doing any cross-training before. If I was working out, I was running. Now, I follow this schedule:

Monday: Off
Tuesday: Bike (45 min)
Wednesday: Run - Intervals
Thursday: Swim (30 min)
Friday: Run - Fast Tempo
Saturday: Off
Sunday: Run - Long Run at Medium Tempo

The first time I biked and swam, I thought I was going to expire from how hard it was. But the second and third times have gotten progressively easier, which is nice.

It remains to be seen how much speed increase I have from this. I'm running the Dawg Dash on October 12 and will see what happens.
