Finally went for that first run so I can finally write in my LJ about it. I guess I'm sort of where I want to be. My goal was to run 3 miles in 30 minutes, give or take a minute. I ended up running 3 miles in 00:32:42. Not great but I feel it's decent for where I'm at. This is what my splits ended up looking like.
1 mi - 9:20
2 mi - 12:09
3 mi - 11:13
I know it kind of looks weird that my second mile took longer than my third mile but I ended up waiting at a stop light for about a minute. So does that mean I can take a minute off my time?
The strange thing about running for me is that after I finished my third mile I decided to run a little bit more so I ran (well jogged I guess) for another half mile. Within that short distance I seemed to have found my pace. I was feeling good. I was jogging at a decent rate and my heart didn't feel like it was going to pop out of my chest and explode in my face. But even though I felt like I could go longer, my knees were starting to ache. I figured I should stop there. The mind was willing but the body was unable. I think I'm developing some bad running habits cause my knees and ankles get quite sore at the end of my runs. Someone told me that it's better to strike with the bottom of your foot instead of striking with the heel. Might give that a shot for my next run. Or perhaps new shoes will fix the problem. Ideas anyone?
