Last night while lying awake in bed, unable to fall asleep after 20 or 30 minutes of trying, I had a glorious epiphany. For the past several weeks when I've been unable to fall asleep as quickly as I'd like, it's for a simple reason: I'm no longer sleep deprived.
That might not sound like such a big epiphany, but consider the fact that I forgot what it was like to not be sleep deprived. A few weeks ago when I couldn't fall asleep in like 10 minutes I'd give up, annoyed at the time I was wasting awake in bed, believing I must not be tired enough to sleep yet - I didn't even realize that that's what it was always like before Caltech.
