Short version: Life is good :)

Not-entirely-short version: Figured I should probably post an update, it's been a few weeks. Poker's been going decently - haven't been entirely keeping up with the hours I've intended but when I dabble around at higher stakes when bored during the day I've been running very well to make up for it. Hanging out with Collette's fun as always :)

I've built up a respectable bar for someone living in a college dorm room - nothing compared to what Dan built up last year (probably only up to about 5% in terms of monetary value) but most people here think of it as impressive anyway. Silly college students.

Besides the Mandelbrot book I mentioned in my last post I've recently read Portnoy's Complaint, by Phillip Roth and The Trial, by Franz Kafka. The former was great and should be read by anyone who has a jewish mother (figuratively or literally). The latter was pretty meh to me. Maybe when I think it over a bit more it'll grow on me but The Trial just didn't do it for me. I think I really dislike Kafka's writing style - that of The Trial seemed reminiscent of Metamorphosis, which left me almost but not quite entirely unsatisfied. I've also begun reading Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, which so far I'm enjoying, I'll comment again when I finish it. As I read it, I do seem to sense Vera-ness to parts of it but maybe I'm imposing that on it myself since she recommended it so highly and I believe I've heard her rave about it once or twice in the past.

On the horizon for reading are Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, Gulliver's Travels, and two or three of the novels of Hermann Hess. More suggestions are always appreciated.

During the day when I don't feel like reading I've taken up bridge on Yahoo! Games at a very rudimentary level, plus the occasional game of Word Racer to flex my skills at rapidly typing long successions of strings of letters which appear word-like.

I've also been watching much of the TV series Angel - I was once told in the distant past that it was only a good show through season 3... Can anyone comment whether that's a good place to stop? Any other random series I should try out? (I've probably rapid-fire watched 20 or 30 TV series so if it's mainstream I've probably already watched every episode or made a deliberate decision not to seek it out)
