No, not peppermint - mint.
Last Friday, I'd just left the convienence store of at terminal 3 of Los Angeles International Airport, and upon sticking a mint lifesaver into my mouth I was instantly transported across 10 years 5 months and 123 miles. I found myself walking the familiar dirt road from the cabins towards the cafeteria in the middle of Astrocamp, during which I habitually ate mint lifesavers and m&ms as my primary candies.
I'm increasingly amazed by the power of sense memories. Every couple weeks it seems some scarcely detectable scent strikes a cord with some part of my brain and I have the faintest memories called to life. Not always something I can put my finger on but I can usually pick out the era of my life. I think usually sense memories are strongest with smell, but the mint lifesavers are so distinctive and I don't know if I ever had any since or before Astrocamp that that was a really strong one.
Real update soon. Maybe.
