You know what's really awesome?

Friends.

Friends make this life livable.  Sometimes due to physical distance, or changes in life like relationships and kids and things, individual friends grow closer or more distant. That's just natural, and it doesn't mean we value them any more or less, or vice-versa.

I've had friends who have done some truly amazing things for me in my life.  For the longest time, even though Mr. S and I aren't the bestest of buddies, we're still friends & I didn't see how anybody could ever overtake his title of "all time most awesome friend."  I mean really.  But I'll tell you that our unrulynarrator is sure giving it the old college try.  Not that it really is a competition or anything.  It's just a bit of a surprise is all.

Perhaps it's partly because I'm getting less anxious and depressed all the time, but I find that when I'm happy, I want to share that with my friends.  And when I'm sad, I turn to my friends for support.  This is different from my old pattern of hermit-ing up and protecting myself.  I feel more open to the world and to life, as well.

I know I post stuff like this a lot, here and on G+, so I hope it's not getting boring.  But sometimes I'm just struck by how valuable you all have become to me.  I'm so thankful to have you guys in my life, and like I told unrulynarrator the other day, I'll fight to keep you if I have to.  And if you ever need me, I'm here.

I feel that for a long time, during my hermit years, I wasn't very good at being there for my friends.  Under the circumstances, with the anxiety and related depression (I don't think I was clinically depressed, but anxiety and depression are very interrelated so it is a part of the story) I guess I can understand and forgive myself for that.  But now that I feel better I'm determined to do a better job of being a friend.  And you guys all inspire me, through your own awesomeness, to be as awesome as you are.  So if I drive you nuts checking in on you when you seem to be having a rough day, I hope you'll forgive me for that.  It's only because I care and want to give you back some of the support you've given me.

Also, I'm not just adept at listening if you need to talk.  I understand that sometimes you just need a sympathetic friend who won't try to make you talk about whatever it is, but will just hang out and be, and maybe provide distraction.

So if you need me, let me know.  I rarely turn my phone off, and if I'm awake and near a computer, I'm probably online, so I'm easy to reach when needed.

And hey, if you just need some fun play time, I can do that too.  I'm looking forward to Girl's Night tomorrow, for sure.  Mmmm David Tennant.  :D  heh

So that's my squishy, lovey update for today.

friends, mental health
