I liked the "Writer's as Sales People". One thing she didn't mention though, is that publishers try to make most of their money from the first few months of the book. Dean Wesley Smith and Kristine Kathryn Rusch refer to this as the produce model.

In self-publishing writers have the lifetime of the book in order to generate revenue.

Sadly, I don't think publishing companies will get it, until a lot of the mid-list writers go independent.

I think in all publishing, but in self-publishing especially, generating awareness is the key.

Good points all. Much as I like having an eBook contract, I want a traditional print one too :)
