Dear Yuletide author,
Hey hi hello! I think this is the first time I've gotten my letter up before assignments have gone out. \o/ \o/
First off, thank in advance for writing a story for me. Ugh it's like magic I'm so excited. Second, yuletide letter disclaimer: optional details are optional. I would way rather read a story someone had fun writing than one covered in blood and tears and author agony. What I am saying here is FOLLOW YOUR HEART. Ahem. OKAY HERE WE GO
Things I like: friendship stories, people being more than they seem, moral complexity, happy or hopeful endings, awesome women, adventures. Unapologetic ridiculousness. Misunderstandings. Ultimately positive emotional catharsis, especially when it's awkward as hell, because feelings are hard. Shenanigans. Consequences. Action. Team-ups. AUs. Character development. Chosen families, and relationships that don't come easy.
Things I generally try to avoid: dismissal or bashing of characters, explicit sex, incest, non-con, major (non-canon) character death.
Lackadaisy
I'd love to see something that included any of the following:
Mordecai being Frighteningly Peculiar, but perhaps with hints of occasional actual feelings, expressed in the most awkward and face-palming way possible. (Nothing says goodbye like a good kneecapping!) Mordecai's weird but mostly functional relationship with Viktor, past or present. Zib's complicated feelings about his current, uh, life situation - namely how often people fire guns at him now. Zib's longstanding friendship with Mitzi. Ivy being cheerful and delightful, but also coming into her own as this kind of sweet-hearted, flaily force to be reckoned with (regarding her illegal affiliations, or legitimate ones).
I really do love all the characters in this comic, though! I really do. So please don't feel limited to the ones listed, if you feel drawn toward someone else.
And the reverse, too - if someone listed doesn't fit into the story, feel free to ignore them. If you read this comic omg I love you let's be friends you'll probably understand what I mean if I say I just want more, right? Past or present, more of the characters, and the setting, and slowly-revealed backstory, and people getting in over their heads.
Bourne Movies
Okay so one of my most favourite things about the Bourne franchise is how the bad guys are backed by this big, deep, secret bureaucracy. Our heroes are running from assassins, but also from a bunch of people working behind desks, wearing heels and ties and security passes. I loved how a side-effect (or... LEGACY, IF YOU WILL) of Jason Bourne's first three movies is that now when things start to look iffy, instead of a half dozen techies in a back room we get ERIC BYER, who walks in completely prepared to burn everything to the ground, just in case. And they're bad guys, but the kind that are just doing their jobs, you know?
Basically, I'd love some form of Marta and Aaron on the run, with this giant bureaucratic nightmare chasing them in the background. Adventure! Temporary, suspicious truces with Byer forged by circumstance to stay alive! Quiet moments getting to know one another on the road! Science! Paperwork! Oh the possibilities.
Yeah. I would also just like to mention that I am not really into the idea of Aaron/Byer? But I am on board with Marta/Aaron.
The Shawshank Redemption
Anything featuring Red and Andy's friendship, during or after the movie, would be fantastic. I love that Red thinks Andy is a ridiculous sort of person (because he is). I also really like that Andy is, by his own admission, kind of a closed book, even with people he probably shouldn't be. Finally, I love that a lot of Red's story is both accepting where he is, and realizing what he can do to change where he is. <3
I actually first saw this movie and read the story earlier this year (I know right)! I love it a lot. Gen or slash are both fine.
And there you have it. I will also leave you with
pollyrepeat's name - she knows my fannish heart, and will say reassuring things to you if you have questions or get stuck. Best of luck, Yuletide author! I hope you find something here you can work with, and have fun, and I will see you on the other side. <3
