I'm starting to wonder about the parallels between Desmond needing somebody to take his place pushing the button and Jacob needing somebody to take his place holding the cork. I think the entire story has already been told and we just can't see it yet.
the funny thing is i read your comment while i was still watching the episode (time-shifting), but like you say, with the parallels, including the parallels they've been throwing into la.x, it was a foregone conclusion.
and definitely. there's clearly plenty of loose ends from ben and widmore's rules paralleling jacob & esau's & the time loop and what eloise knew/knows and who's whose descendant, etc. for them to weave it into a mindfuck of revelations of things we already know but don't realize we know. they've already said that some of the fan guesses they've seen have been remarkably close to the real story.
The long con! I wonder if one of the prerequisites for the job is GETTING the job, i.e. spearheading/leading/being responsible for making sure Flocke doesn't get on that plane. If so, Sawyer's got quite a bit more proselytizing/lying to do.
Also: Keamy saying "The heart wants what the heart wants." !!!
I was so glad to be able to see that whole thing play out from Jin's perspective. Sayid was so cold, Keamy so deceptive (w/r/t who shot them all). And for a second, right after Jin says thank you in English, I thought it was JIn who had the sooper sekrit English skillz (and Sun the monolingual). It was a fun second.
