Interesting little test.

Petals Around the RoseIts a simple little game that one professor claimed that the smarter you are the longer it takes to figure out (of course it took him a year to figure it out). I got it wrong on the first turn but was able to get it right every time after that. Its really not a test of intelligence, I think its a matter of how logically or ( Read more... )

I must be a utter idiot, then monkeycid February 19 2005, 11:30:05 UTC
I've seen this before. The first time I did it, it took me, uh, two tries. I had an initial theory that was proved wrong on the first try, and hit jackpot on the second one. I am stupid :D

My first theory was on the right track, I just didn't account for one thing so I got it wrong the first time. After I saw the answer I was able to make sense of it.

*sighs*

I haven't been able to figure it out yet, and I've been playing for about 10 minutes now. I refuse to look at the answer until I get it.

though, I got it right ONE time, but then my theory was off.

ok, I've gotten 3 in a row, but I'm not quite sure how I'm doing it.

Damn dude, that took me like 45 mins to get. I did pretty much everything and must've come up with a few dozen algorithms to solve it. Fun though, nice one

It took me the second try. Too easy.

So why is it that he thinks that only stupid people will get it right off the bat? Sounds like to me he's being illogical. It's ridiculously easy and logical. The clue is in the damn title: Petals AROUND the Rose. What's at the center of the Rose? The Bud. If it doesn't have a bud, it's not a flower.

That's a creative way to go about a seemingly mathimatical problem though. Some people can only see the numbers, which is probably what that professor was doing. Doesn't really matter how smart you are though, think that guy was just saying that to make himself look good.

But it still is mathematical, it's showing you a representation of numbers, and you have to figure out which symbols apply.
