I watched Of Mice And Men (1992). What a tremendously stressful movie. Steinbeck's foreshadowing is so universally negative that even in the most hopeful moments the dreams of the characters seem doomed to collapse, and the movie maintains this feeling throughout. Entire scenes are thickly stressful, like the tense silence in the scene where Sandy's dog is shot, or any scene with Curly or his wife in it. In the end I felt desperate for some resolution to end the pain and difficulty the events of the story imposed; and as bitter as the ending of the story was, it felt slightly liberating. I sensed a chance that as terrible as the events in the movie were, the next chapter, just past the end of the movie, could be more optimistic. Or at least, I hoped.
