Poll Oblivion My wife Cathy recently got into the Xbox
game Oblivion. The game is quite excellent graphically and contains much complex detail, if you are into immersive fantasy RPG I have never seen one better. This is her first real taste of role playing games. She loves it, and wastes time on it with the best of them.
I used to play games like that, D&D is the primary reason I ended up leaving university as a freshman, but it has been many years since I have played any RPGs.
I have spent a little time watching her play her character, but I am about done with that. She spent more than an hour shopping in a market district, then spent another hour trying on clothing and organizing her closet (and she isn't nearly done yet, she tells me).
I remember when RPGs were hack/slash, throw a fireball, heal, repeat.
To my wife, they are shop, dress, organize, make potions, repeat, (especially the shopping part).
Soon she will be a 20th level mage using that process/strategy....smile....
As a barely related aside, I recall one of my favorite games from the '80s,
M.U.L.E.Does anyone here remember that game? The dynamic auction in M.U.L.E. was very far ahead of its time and I have never seen it replicated nearly as well. Over the years I have wondered why not, the multiplayer game couldn't have been more fun, if any classic concept deserves an update M.U.L.E. is most deserving.
