Meeting about Ba'al

Apr 03, 2006 12:37

Jonny entered the conference room, carrying a laptop and his specialty coffee mug. He sat at the head of the table, set up his laptop and pulled up some translations he was working on to pass the time while everyone arrived.

working, ba'al, goa'uld

Jonny looked over at everyone. "This everyone? Good. As you all know, Dr. MacGregor was recently snaked. Hermiod got it out and it's dead, thank god, but that still leaves us with Ba'al to deal with. We can handle this two ways.

"One: we take the Daedalus to Ba'al's base and nuke the bastard. Two: we set a trap here in Atlantis for him."

Jonny looked over at Rae as he said this second option. "I'm sorry, but number two would require your direct participation."

He turned to the room in general. "So...comments? Questions? Options? Anyone?"

Gods, she hates to say this. Rae answers O'Neil in a quiet voice.

"Astarte was on the ship the whole time until they went ot the Genii. We don't really *know* where his base is. It's likely on a planet, so you're talking about lots of innocent people going up along with him. She... She had plans on bringing him to Atlantis once she gained control anyway. we can use that against him."

He could really learn to like this guy--really. O'neil was in his element here, clone or not--the man knew when to get to the point--and John appreciated it more than usual, with his husband's clammy hand in his own under the table.

"I'd much rather it just be you and me, a small strike team, we could easily get into this bastard's home turf, blow him to kingdom come, and get out--quick, messy--has a nice ring of finality to it.."

Daniel piped up, one finger held straight up, his nose still buried in the translations he was going over.

"as much as I respect your penchant for watching things explode, Colonel--do you know *where* Ba'al is? I know I don't--and as much as I've gone over and gone over these texts, I can't figure out where he'd be in this galaxy--there is no record of Ba'al ever having been present in Pegasus before."

Carson can't help but agree, as much as it pains him. "He's right, John. We can't just run in wherever it is willy-nilly. We don't know how many innocent people he could have enslaved or not."

Jonny nodded to Rae in acknowledgement. "We might just do that, if you're up to it."

He grinned over at John. "Hey, I'm with you on that but..." Jonny rolls his eyes and nods when Danny speaks up. "...that puts a dampner on that. I was kinda hoping Dr. MacGregor knew where his base planet was."

At Beckett's comment, Jonny nods again. "Another point to consider."

Rae flinches. She hates having so much information on this damn thing. She's careful to remain calm for Radek's sake, though...

"He hasn't been, either of them. He wants to be the biggest thing in town. And yes, he would have a lot of people serving him, or he wouldn't have made a move yet. He already has Laden and the Genii under thrall. If... If we can lure him here, we can take him, since he'd have a smaller contingent with him and we can shut the gate behind him." She shudders a little to think of that thing again...

Jonny nodded. "That could work. Except we'd be left with a few Jaffa anyway, since they always preceed the goa'uld they serve, but they shouldn't be a problem for stunners. Ba'al likely has a personal shielding device that stops bullets and energy weapons, but a knife--or something similar--thrown can get through it."

He looked over at MacGregor apologetically. "I'm sorry to put you through his, Dr. MacGregor, but can you pose as Astarte to get Ba'al here?"

She nods. "She had something like that too, a necklace shield device."

Then Jonny asks the question she dreaded, the one that could make or break things... and people. She pales, and barely manages to keep her voice from shaking as she glances at John and Radek. "I... On one condition. I don't Radek to have to see it. I can't help you if it hurts him. I'm sorry, but... I just can't do that..."

She looks at Radek, her eyes pleading with him to understand, she'd even give up helping kill rather than harm him further. "Otherwise, yes. But I would need Steven's help. Ba'al will want to see his Lo'Tar first off. He'd be beyond pissed if denied. If I can convince him that it's safe for him to come through, he'd only bring a couple Jaffa and about 20 Genii soldiers. I believe John and his men could handle that many people. I couldn't get him to lower the shield device, but perhaps someon can disable him with a slow projectile, like a knife, or arrow? Those can definitely penetrate it and hurt him.

Steven had been staring down at his hand where it was linked with Daniel's under the table, but he looked up when he heard his name and found himself looking straight at Rae. "I..."

He looked away, looked at Daniel for a second, for strength. "I can...I think I can do that."

Daniel continues speaking as he tightens his fingers almost-painfully on Steven's beneath the table--he can feel the soft tremble of Steven's thigh under his hand. His lover is moments away from being the enemy here--from being considered a true consort of Ba'al--he had been tricked, coerced, not posessed like Doctor MacGregor--it was important to retain his sense of self, of innocence, of confidence ( ... )

Steven squeezed Daniel's hand, then shook his head. "If I'd done my job right, he'd expect you to be completely clueless. I was supposed to distract you, not convert you. He wouldn't trust you even if you *did* convert. Play lovesick and oblivious, that's what he'll expect."

"You tell me how far away that is and I will be there." She looked at Steven, wondering if he realized what he just said. Talk about gaining ground.

"That would work. Not the killing part, he'd never believe we let that go. But... I could convince him you have him in thrall, maybe even from some Ancient device we found... He'd definitely be pleased with that. I... I could wear her devices, borrow one of Teyla's skirt outfits... He'd be distracted long enough to take him down. John and them could be behind the Gate, they can surround them when Chuck shuts it off on my command..."

Daniel nods solemnly, tracing obscure heirogliphs on the top of Steven's thigh, only a few words, he only has time for a few--but they're all he needs to say ( ... )

Jonny nodded and made a note in his laptop. "Done." He looked over at Sheppard, brown eyes assessing. "Can you handle a team on your own? If so, one's yours."

Jonny turned to Chuck, the Colonel more than the Kid at the moment. "Be ready to dial the first space gate that comes to mind if things go wrong. Worse comes to worse, I want Ba'al dead."

Radek's eyes turn to Daniel; cold specks behind his glasses. His accent, which moments ago was thick, is now almost gone. "I never miss a target, Dr. Jackson. I was once known as 'Crnobog' and it was a name well earned."

He turned to John. "May Morena come to play? I'm am certain that Ba'al would want to meet a fellow deity." His smile is cold, calculating and promises death to any in his way.

Rae knows this voice. Unfortunately, common sense has to come into play here.

//Love... A knife will get through his shield. Morena wouldn't. Too high a velocity.//
