it's been awhile!
i've been hella busy. i spent China's National Days in KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA: 5 days of eating Muslim/Malay food, shopping, partying, and mingling with the locals. :-)
- a lamb kabap, humis, fresh olives - SUPERB.
- beneath the Petronas Towers. they are spectacular!!! the tube runs beneath it, so you can arrive, shop, snap photos, then get on your way... :-)

currently, i'm freakin' busy with makin' the rounds at work. i have 5 classes this semester - 2 ARW (Academic Reading & Writing) and 3 Year 01 (General English) classes. i particularly love my Year 01 classes. they are all upper levels, so we can basically hold discussions in debates in class! i love that opportunity. we're writing 4 essays, #2 has just been assigned. aside from these 5 courses, i also have a club.
- i was granted a club this semester (...???)!!!! i know right???? EVA (my boss from Hong Kong), must have had an extra spoonful of sugar in her cereal that day, because teaching faculty hardly get granted a club! clubs generally go to a team of TAs. however, hosting a club is super fabulous!!!!! i've created "Insights into the Navajo Culture" this year. we have many tasks at hand, including:
- language: useful Navajo phrases
- family: significance of a matrilineal society
- music/dance: pow-wow beats
- legends: i.e. dreamcatchers
- fashion: turquoise and beading
- textiles: rugs and looms
- food: mutton, frybread, and corn
- my Navajo Club bulletin board: it's a dreamcatcher! on the back are students' dreams and goals that have filtered through (onto the board). the obstacles to these dreams are tangled in the web. :-)
my club hours are the highlights of my week.
