Youth Camp 2011

It's been a long time since i took part in a Youth Camp. I am, afterall, an young adult.

However, it is my pleasure to serve alongside the comm- Jon Wee, Cherie, Sherry, Andrina, Audrey, Daniel, Laureen, Leon, Mavis, Ps Daniel, Jaime and Lynn. There is really a strong sense of unity in this comm as i saw everyone going the extra mile for one another. I am grateful that the campers were so game for the activities. Through this camp, i have made friends with the youths and the youth leaders that caused me to love these people. As i spent time with them, God just showed me how precious they are not just to Him, but how they have grown to take a place in my heart.

As i spent time seeking the Lord in the camp, the single question that i kept asking God was, "What's next?" After watching 'Furious Love', i was just praying and suddenly, the presence of the Lord struck me like lightning. The picture of Rev. Johnnie Barnes flashed across me and i see this man going out tiredlessly to love and reach out for young people. Then the Lord convicted my heart. My idea of ministry and HIS idea of ministry is different. I am called to reach, teach and keep. The primary need today is really reaching. It is to equip the young people to go out and not huddle in a group within 4 walls. Then i was reminded of the late cmdr Perry Siddle who travelled to SG and trained leaders despite having cancer. If i was in his shoes, i would rather stay at home with my family, spending as much time as i can with them. But he chose to equip leaders knowing they can go out to reach more.

While the problems our young people face are real and can be overwhelming, it is nothing compared to the kind of suffering other believers go through for their faith. We have turned inward looking. It is time for us to go out, look out and reach the lost for His kingdom. It is not a one time thing, but really, it is to love these people into His Kingdom. Afterall, love is not a characteristic of God. Jesus IS love.
