The morality of Marvel

So, I've been thinking for awhile now. I've reread a few of my older What if comics, and I've even gone so far as to read a few of the newer comics out there I don't have subscriptions too. While it is clear some things fall under an overarching guidelines (like unquestioning support for the Drug War), others are left to individual writers. ( Read more... )

Yeah, I was musing in a comic forum the other day that I was worried the Marvel guys are saying they're giving their fascist "pro-registration" side of Civil War a fair shake because they actually might believe in some of it themselves, even though the rest of us see it as a flimsy strawman.

The others rightly pointed out that they've got the pro-reg side regularly freaking out with unjustified violence and creepy propaganda, but I can't help but wonder. There is a thin line between "the government should take care of us" and insane totalitarianism.

The thing that bothers me here is pretty simple. When I don't know about something, I don't talk about it, let alone preach about it. Increasingly, I've come to the conclusion that a lot of people at Marvel (and the wider world, but I already knew that) don't know anything about politics or government, but they preach all the time ( ... )
