Gasoline pricing anomaly

Beth said that she just paid $2.63/gallon at Costco, while the cheapest other gas we've seen recently was going for $3.33. 70 cents per gallon seems an absurdly high discrepancy, but it's probably due to the quick rise/slow fall pattern in gas prices: Gas stations typically raise prices as soon as the wholesale price spikes, but delay lowering their prices until after they've sold gas that they bought at the high price.

Still, it'd take 79 gallons at that price difference to pay for the Costco membership, if that's all you wanted it for.
