When I was in my 20's I used to imagine the soundtrack that accompanied my life was Raiders of the Lost Ark. Every time I went to a job interview or basically anything stressful, I would put that sucker on and it was awesome.
For a long time, the soundtrack was made of more melancholy music, like Sophisticated Lady by Duke Ellington, or Sunday in the Park with George by Sondheim (the whole score).
Now, I've decided that I want to make my life much more like the soundtrack to Sherlock Holmes. I was captivated by it at the theater when I saw the movie (loved it more than the film, actually) and now that I downloaded the sucker, I listen to it so often. Hans Zimmer did a magnificent job, and there's so much life and adventure and daring and then some sad and some heartbreaking but then there's this heartbeat in the music that speeds up my own, lifts my spirits and fills me with courage.
Instead of finding a soundtrack that represents who I am, I want to infuse my life with this soundtrack. No, I don't intend to do any boxing, but I do intend to step up to adventure and stare down my fears and my inertia.
I love having something that will kick my ass into gear.
PS - I also want my life's art direction to be done by Gordon Willis (Manhattan among others) even though it would be in black and white. When I feel the need for color, I choose Gemma Jackson (Finding Neverland).
