Hi. Let's talk about
Xkit Rewritten, a browser extension for Tumblr written by
April Sylph and many others, again.
For those unaware, Xkit Rewritten is the successor to
New Xkit, which was the successor to the original Xkit or yore. All three of these extensions add various useful things to one's Tumblr Dashboard, such as the ability to mute posts, or the ability to one-click reblog things. It's all very handy. Best of all, Xkit has always been modular. Only pick the stuff you want and leave the rest by the wayside!
When Xkit Rewritten was first launched, I was had questions and I had doubts. For one, I didn't know April was part of the "core" module coders for New. I thought she was just some random-body stepping in for fame and glory. Rewritten also didn't have all the features that New did - and still doesn't, to this day. I approached April about this and was pretty much shot down time and time again, my issues on GitHub being marked as "will not implement". After a few attempts, I just gave up.
I've never liked how Xkit Rewritten works. Instead of embedding itself in the Dashboard, you have to tinker with the settings over in your Extensions widget. I also don't care for April's blunt, almost cavalier attitude when it comes to the project. I get the feeling April doesn't like my attitude much, either. Even so, I can't argue with the results.
I've used Xkit Rewritten with my ad-blocker since the day it was released, more or less, and I still very much enjoy what features it does have, such as Quick Tags, which adds your created tag bundles to your posts. There's also a bunch of modules I have which I don't think about, like Anti-Capitalism, which removes most of the adverts from the Dashboard page. I may not get along with April for whatever reason, but I adore her work. She does good stuff.
Thank you for reading. Have a good day.
