tonight i saw 'the passion of the Christ' with my sis, her boyfriend, and his entire church group/congregation...they, like many here, reserved an entire theater for the showing of the film....
i'll get to the film in a sec but first....
i haven't bothered to read the reviews of the film until now (only heard that most weren't singing its praises)...and after seeing it and reading a select few, i definitely don't agree with the majority of them...only on two counts do i agree - it was a 'shock and awe' type film, as one of the critics put it...and the other would be that characters weren't fully developed and if you're a non-believer or whatnot you would have a very hard time understanding the film...
now even though i'm a christian (baptist, to be specific), i've never actually 'read' the bible cover-to-cover...which would've been really helpful if i had tonight cause for the most part, i had no clue as to who all the other people were ('cept for when they were called by name)....i know, bad robin, bad! i should read the bible...i just can't follow the whole thing...i get cross-eyed after all those begets...
for the movie itself...my emotions were running high from the time He was arrested, to the very end...and i'm glad mel gibson didn't hold anything back with the violence...every depiction i've seen of Jesus on the cross is with the crown of thorns + little bit of blood dripping + few long bloody cuts + nails in hands and feet....
a little too on the safe side...
his movie (and yes, it is only a movie and i know that) really gave me the full effect and makes me understand more about why Jesus did what he did....i personally wouldn't ever volunteer to be flogged like that, and i hope that doesn't make me less of a christian...it makes me appreciate Him so much more....
an important lesson i hope stays with people, whether or not they've seen the film, is that His message was to love one another (enemies included)...i mean, He was still praying for those that crucified him while it was being done...if that doesn't say something, i don't know what could...
and just for the record...no feelings of antisemitism here...wasn't taught to have any of those feelings either...i love all races of man, whatever their religion...and for those that do.... ::shakes head::
