Thanks for posting the prompt! Something about it really captured my imagination - probably because I'm a feminist who's always looking for kickass female characters and interesting studies of what gender means.

You know, your rec hit it right on the head. That's very much what the fic is about, for me. The Doctor's nature is something that transcends gender. The running, and the guilt, and turning to humans for solace - these things run so very deep that gender is only tangential. And yet fem!Nine is still very much her own woman.

And since you seem to have very interesting things to say, I'm off to check out your fic!

I am madly, madly, madly in love with girl!Nine. She's at once very similar to canon!Nine, and also a very distinct character. And I love that she always leads when they dance. Also, the dancefloor-computer-map is absolutely inspired.

I think it's possible that in a moment of great vulnerability and trust, fem!Nine might allow Rose or Jack to lead (I'm speaking both literally and metaphorically.) It would be a very special moment, I think, that would show the depth of her trust in them. -shakes fist- Damn you, I'm already getting ideas for codas to this fic!

This is so wonderful. I love how you've made fem!Nine completely unique and yet at the same time, she's undeniably canon!Nine as well. Also, thank you for addressing Jackie and Mickey's view of the whole thing, because it really helps give perspective.

Unfortunately (or maybe amusingly? I don't know), the whole time through, I could only picture fem!Nine as this picture of Eccleston in drag:

I was really interested in how other characters' perspectives on the Doctor would change. A strong, independent woman who's strange and saves the day and wears leather is interpreted very differently from a man who does the same. I thought it also added a whole new level of creep factor to Henry van Statten - think of the shirtless torture scene. Though now that I think of it, some of Nine's scenes with Nancy become extra-adorable, because she was a mother once too.

I had a tab open with that picture the entire time I was writing, LOL!

That is very true. I feel it's rather sad that society (from what I've seen, at any rate) frowns upon or is unnerved by aggressive or 'intimidating' women with strong personalities.
I did wonder about that van Statten scene while reading this. And then I promptly forgot that I was going to comment on it as I continued reading. haha

LOL. I had your pic of claudia black open in an attempt to keep her on my mind, but alas. Failure. The ridiculous thing is that I couldn't even find a copy of the picture until a good 15 minutes after I'd read the fic. *is a dork*

"Ah," said the Doctor, and her smile was secret, never to be shown to another. "I guess that's all right, then."

I really love how fem!Nine is clearly still the Doctor, and her relationships to people are really not all that different from "our" Nine.

And I adore Jack keeping his head, calming everyone down and telling Ten off. (And yay! for him not having been left behind!)

I actually have a bit of an explanation in my head about why Ten isn't freaking out about having the Fixed Point so nearby while in such a vulnerable state, but I'll have to save that for next time...
