Music lyrics for characters meme

Ganked from

tardis_stowaway: Choose fifteen characters. Then put your playlist on shuffle. Your first song with lyrics is your first character, and so on. For each song, choose lyrics that resonate with the corresponding character.

I liked what T_S did with their lyrics, so I followed the meme faithfully except for songs that were instrumental, in a language I don't speak, or less than twenty seconds long.

1. Brienne of Tarth (A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones)
2. Buffy Summers (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)
3. William Lawrence (Temeraire)
4. Jack Harkness (Doctor Who/Torchwood)
5. Alice Carter (Torchwood)
6. Jake (Animorphs)
7. Rachel (Animorphs)
8. Marco (Animorphs)
9. Cassie (Animorphs)
10. Tobias (Animorphs)
11. Ax (Animorphs)
12. Loren (Animorphs)
13. Sherlock Holmes (BBC Sherlock)
14. Hermione Granger (Harry Potter)
15. Finnick Odair (Hunger Games)

1. Brienne of Tarth: "Cloudy" by Simon & Garfunkel
Reminds me of Brienne's wanderings through the riverlands with Jaime:

It's hitchhike a hundred miles
I'm a ragamuffin child
With a finger-painted smile
I left my shadow waiting down the road for me a while

2. Buffy Summers: "She's So Strange" by Travis
Season 6 Buffy, maybe?

What she'd done
And she didn't know quite what she did
And they told her that she better had
So now she starts to cry
Without a reason why

3. William Lawrence: "Well Well Well" by Peter, Paul and Mary
This evokes Lawrence's bitterness toward his homeland, and all the terrible oppression they've created in the world despite their lofty principles.

God said fire comin' judgement day,
He said all mankind gonna pass away.
Brothers and sisters don't you know?
You're gonna reap just what you sow.

4. Jack Harkness: "The Times They Are A-Changin'" by Bob Dylan
Well, this is some cruel commentary for Children of Earth.

Come mothers and fathers throughout the land
And don't criticize what you can't understand
Your sons and your daughters are beyond your command
Your old road is rapidly agin'
Please get out of the new one if you can't lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin'.

5. Alice Carter: "Stuck in the Middle With You" by Stealers Wheel
Hard, because this is more of a playful wacky song, but the lyrics out of this context work pretty well.

Well, you started off with nothing and you're proud that you're a self-made man.
And your friends they all come and slap you on the back and say please, please.
Trying to make some sense of it all, but I can see it makes no sense at all.
Is it cool to go to sleep on the floor? 'Cause I don't think that I can take anymore.

6. Jake: "Where Have All the Flowers Gone" by Peter, Paul, and Mary
LOL, an anti-war song about how children shouldn't go off to die. For Jake. Ouch.

Where have all the soldiers gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the soldiers gone?
Long time ago
Gone to graveyards, every one.
Oh, when will they ever learn?
Oh, when will they ever learn?

7. Rachel: "Wear Your Love Like Heaven" by Donovan
This song is really difficult because it's a beautiful song about sharing love and peace? Which is not Rachel at all? But this is the best I could do, because she did fight for freedom, after all.

Can I believe what I see?
All I have wished for will be
All our race proud and free

8. Marco: "Be OK" by Ingrid Michaelson
These lyrics would apply to any Animorph, really, but I'll take it.

I just want to feel today, feel today, feel today
I just want to feel something today
Open me up and you will see
I'm a gallery of broken hearts
I'm beyond repair, let me be
And give me back my broken parts

9. Cassie: "Fences" by Phoenix
This applies pretty well to Cassie in The Departure.

If only
Your necessary silhouette
Unknown, join the dissidents
Got carried away
Now hiding from their lies and discords
Come roll the dice for me

10. Tobias: "No You Girls" by Franz Ferdinand
If I shipped Rachel/Tobias, this would apply somewhat. Ah well, I'll just pretend I ship them and use these lyrics.

Flick your eyes and mine and then hit me
Hit me with your eyes so sweetly
Oh, you know you know you know that yes I love
I mean I'd love to get to know you
Do you never wonder?
No, no no no, you girls never know
Oh no, you girls'll never know
No you girls never know
How you make a boy feel

11. Ax: "The Parking Ticket" from "Once More With Feeling"
Wow, this has absolutely nothing to do with Ax in any way. Though it does have the lighthearted feel of his comic relief moments!

12. Loren: "Good Morning Good Morning" by the Beatles
I can find absolutely no connection here. The point of this song isn't the lyrics anyway, but all the fun sound effects and rhythms.

13. Sherlock Holmes: "Freight Train" by Peter, Paul, and Mary
I never expected this song to fit, but it gave me unexpected Reichenfeels.

Freight train, freight train going so fast
Freight train, freight train going so fast
Please don't tell what train I'm on
So they won't know where I've gone.
Freight train, freight train, going round the bend
Freight train, freight train, gone again
One of these days turn that train around
Go back to my hometown.

14. Hermione Granger: "Sea of Love" by Cat Power
I'm going to interpret the lyrics with complete pedantry and say this is Hermione singing to Crookshanks.

Do you remember
When we met?
That's the day I knew you were my pet
I want to tell you
How much I love you

15. Finnick Odair: "Sunday Afternoon" from "The Capeman"
This works unexpectedly well, since my headcanon District 4 was always Central America, and I always pictured Finnick as Hispanic, never mind the movies. So have some Finnick/Annie.

The buildings here
Tall as the mountains
Slice through the windows
And cut off the sun
On such days I find
I am longing for Puerto Rico
Though I never would return
Until you are free
