So I'm checking The Crew's myspace where i see a bulletin posted about not going to school on September 11th. I open it and find...

NO SCHOOL SEPTEMBER 11TH
EVERYBODY, STAY HOME FROM SCHOOL ON SEPTEMBER 11TH... NO MATTER WHAT SCHOOL YOU GO TO, WHAT STATE YOU LIVE IN, THINK ABOUT IT... TEACHERS SHOW UP AND NOBODY IS IN CLASS... THEN THEY'LL LEAVE... TELL A LOT OF PEOPLE AND LETS SEE IF WE CAN MAKE IT ON NEWS... WHY SEPTEMBER 11TH? CAUSE ITS A DAY WE SHOULD NOT BE IN SCHOOL BECAUSE OF WHAT HAPPENED WE GET SCHOOL OFF FOR A BUNCH OF DEAD PRESIDENTS BUT WE DON'T GET SCHOOL OFF FOR A MASS MURDER OF PEOPLE WE PROBABLY KNEW? AND ALL THE AMAZING FIRE FIGHTERS THAT DIED FOR THIS COUNTRY!! ... JUST KEEP REPOSTING AND TELL EVERYONE YOU KNOW...NO SCHOOL SEPT. 11TH

I have to say that I disagree. I think it is important to remember the people and, for history's sake, examin how it has changed the world we live in now, but to make it a national holiday seems to go too far. Yes,we should honor the fire fighters that died that day, but we have a day already dedicated to people like them, Memorial Day. The arguement that because we honor past presidents and not the civilians killed on that day is illogical. Both Abraham Lincoln and George Washington, the presidents I am assuming this person is talking about, have contributed to the nation we live in, including our modern concept of freedom. The people that died on September 11 were bystanders that were murdered by enemies of the United States. They are in two different ball parks, one concerning what the United States means, and one is simply a day of tragedy, which I don;t believe is something we should celebrate.

We celebrate holidays. All holidays. And a day like September 11th is nothing special nor something to be celebrated. If school were cancelled on September 11th, how many students would even think of the significance of the day? In twenty years, how many kids will care that two buildings were destroyed? An event like September 11th can be remembered byu how our country is run. If you try to fly somewhere, you remember September 11th. If you turn on the news, You'll remember September 11th. The real reason behind that message is that some kid somewhere doesn;t want to go to school, and I hate that they are masking it behind an event that was tragic and upsetting to many people.
