My meeting with Ed Brubaker for FCBD!

God, I really need to update. I just visited this other blog for some catching up. Man, I do miss discussions. I miss the fun conversations I would have with fans without things becoming political. I needed a break. I really did. I am so fed up with assholery and unwanted people trying to pry into my life after I have made so many attempts to keep them away. I started this blog because I wanted to meet like minded people, share thoughtful discussions and do silly fanthings. I am not setting out to be the next gothamspoilers or CBR. I don't have the time/energy much less patience to spend money on books I really don't give a crap about. I just want a place to talk about the things that I love without the hostile environment. I have learned that there are some pricks out there that need to learn what 'oppression' and 'misogyny' really mean. Here's a hint: You cannot claim victimhood if you want to be the one holding the whip! In addition to that, I have learned that my definition of 'liberal' does not mean the same thing to my peers. Whatever, fuck it. I really don't need another ulcer.

Now, on with the show!

Three weeks late but better late than never. I had the opportunity to meet the genius Ed Brubaker for free comic book day on on May 5th. I brought my copies of Fatale #1-#3 and Catwoman Dark End of the Street, Wild Ride, and Crooked Little Town. He was very, very nice and I had the chance to have a mini interview with him.

I complimented Mr. B on his work on Miss Kitty and told him that his touch was sorely missing from the current run. I am sorry but I am so fed up with the current monthly. Bru was not afraid to touch upon sensitive subjects. He also gave it soul. The 90s were action adventure while the 2000s Catwoman was mature and sophisticated. I asked him about his work and he gave me a rather interesting antedote. I did not write down everything word for word so here are some bullet points.

1. He had a plan to end with DC before going over to Marvel.

2. He had a plan for Selina to have a one night stand with Bruce and Slam Bradley's son around the same time. He is actually the originator of the 'pregnancy' storyline. Not Pfeiffer. In fact, he came up with it approximately two years before it came around. By the time he heard it he said 'What?!? That was my idea!'

3. Selina was supposed to "die" at the end of his run. This was just before he would go to Marvel.

4. We the readers would not know who the father was.

He made a parallel about Selina with 'Dark Angel'.

This is how I remember to the best of my knowledge but yes, there you have it!

Darwyn Cooke had already signed my copy. YAY!
