Resident Evil: Now That's Some Good Shit!

For years now, I’ve been reluctant to watch the sequels to the movie Resident Evil, or to re-watch the first film, because I remembered not really liking it. However, something compelled me recently to look it up on youtube and give it another try. It wasn’t as bad as I remembered it being, and the end definitely left me wondering what happened next, so I went out and rented the second and third movies.

You know how usually, sequels aren’t as good as the first movie? Well, that couldn’t be further from the truth in this case.

The first movie was clearly a “video game movie,” and was pretty clearly set in the horror genre, despite a few hi-tech elements. However, with genetic tampering, cloning, and more futuristic technology, the sequels delve more into dark sci-fi than flat-out horror, making them different from any other zombie flicks I’ve seen.

The third movie adds yet another interesting element, when the main character gains psychic abilities.

Another thing I enjoy about this series is that there’s no romance, which I find refreshing. Oh, sure, there’s some tension, but it’s only realized through a brief kiss before the man drives off to sacrifice himself for the survival of the group.

Anyway, I could write a longer review, but I don’t feel like it, so, in conclusion, I’d highly recommend these movies. *shit-eating grin*
