Introduction to the Diary of my Trip. Art A2.
The first thing I should explain is how this diary refers to the brief, Journey. The immediate thought that came when I heard the word Journey was the transformation of the sober mind to the intoxicated. I wanted to look into and illustrate feeling high, wasted, gone, battered, fucked, hammered- etc. I wanted to put into a visual concept what it was to be on drugs, I wanted to show visually the feelings, physical impacts, sounds, sights- the whole mood and how it is different to the sober norm.
I started to research drugs- by definition, reputation, appearance, effect, legality and opinion. I even left a book at a house in Hyde Park for people to record in, simply saying, Please write in me when fucked, ta.
But yesterday afternoon, I was flicking through the newspaper magazines we get at the weekend. There was an Art section, in the Guardian I think, and I just started laughing. The write up was perfect inspiration and direction for such a broad and changeling brief. It was an article about Blotter Art- the huge wads of thin paper used to soak LSD as a whole or individual tab of paper infected with liquid acid. This was like a huge stepping stone for me, instead of looking into the many highs- I would follow an acid trip- the journey of acid. Following the exact time pattern, mood swings, hallucinations and unity felt whilst the subject has dropped. I would record in a diary- annotation would be recorded in narrative form by the author who Id portray and along with that would be all sorts of visual interpretations of tripping- combined with blotter artists work, photographs, mixed media collages and observational drawings of acid tabs and hallucinations.
----tab anyone?
